what kinda luck are you guys having with this ammo? will be using on p-dogs. this is not my dedicated p-dog gun, so dont worry about barrel burning. i just use it for the looong shots. or can you reccomend another factory ammo that works well on p dogs. i thought i remembered hearing mixed thoughts about the moly.

i have only used winchester super x 100gr and federal powershock 80gr. neither gave the exploding effect i thought there would be from the bigger gun. so im looking for something more explosive. im kinda new to all this, so help me out on what i should be looking for. thanks! also wondering what the hornady 75g hollow point is like, or is a v-max tip more of what i want?

I use them in my .243 for coyotes with excellent results. They should work fine for prairie dogs. In fact, I don't even bother reloading for my .243 because they are so accurate in it.

A buddy of mine, Swany383 (another member here), swears by them through his Winchester bolt gun. After seeing some of his groups, I know why!!

I tried them (not the moly) 58grn Vmax in my .243 and got crappy results.

Define "crappy".

I like SDcoyotecaller have had excellent results with the factory loads on coyote and bobcats. By that I mean one shots kills with no exits in most cases.

43gr.varget and 58gr vmax out of my vls shoots 1/4" at 100 yards but look the load up for your self that is off of max but shoots real good for me the 65gr. vmax and varget shoot better but dont know if you would have that explosive effect that the 58gr. will /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I switched to the 75 grain and got better results. I also quit using Moly in anything to messy and everytime you clean a gun you have to fire 4 or 5 before it comes back to zero. They say it should never need cleaned but I,m not sold on that yet anyway.

Good luck, Stan

Too short of a bullet. Good accuracy at short range, but falls apart.

Like others here, I have had better luck with, and prefer, the 70-75 gr. pills.

I have loaded up some for my 243 handi and have 1/2" groups at 100. Have not had a chance to shoot longer distance yet. I do shoot a rem 700 and 75 gr v-max. Longest shot so far was a crow at 420 yards! My son (17) shot one at 418 and I just had to beat him. Very accurate and devasting to boot. The remington 700 will not shoot the 58 grain AT ALL! So it makes a diff what guns you put them thru. Good luck

The "best" was slightly larger than 1 inch. Most groups were 1.5 - 2 inches. That is "crappy" for a longer range P-dog gun.

I've had great luck loading the 58 Vmax in several different .243's. Excellent accuracy, great velocity, very flat trajectory, big time graphic terminal effect on p-dogs.

For p-dogs with a .243, I prefer either the 58 Vmax or the 55 B-tip, whichever one the particular rifle shoots best.

Have not run into a .243 that would not shoot one or the other as well as the rifle would shoot any other bullet. Have never had any problems with accuracy out to the ranges we typically shoot with them either.

I'm sure there are .243's out there that shoot well with heavier bullets but won't shoot well with these. Stuff like that happens with rifles. But, I have not run into a .243 like that, yet.

Hi boys this is my first post here as ive just registered,
but i would just like to say that im using 58 grain v max in my 243 using 44.1 grains of varget and a CCI large rifle primer, its a very accurate load and my best shot so far has been a greycrow at 525 laser ranged yards, its a load i use for fox here in Ireland and it shoots flatter than my 220 swift over 400 yards...so im a fan i guess

+1 on the 58 grain v-max very accurate,it does the number on the ground hogs.Never shot a coyote with them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I found I could not shoot the 58 grain reliably, got tired of trying different powders.

I have wonderful results with the 65 gr V-Max and 41.7 gr of Reloder 15. 3 touching any time, 5 shots touching on a good day.

Using an older 700 BDL varmint with a muzzle break. Faraway doggies are not safe.

I also have had good luck with the 65gr vmaxs, but with varget. The same load has shot moa or better in 3 different rifles. The Sako really likes it.
