I have a remington 597 17 hmr with the metal clip and I have had feed issues and rounds getting crossed up and jamming. I have tried two different clips with the same results. Any ideas? Has anyone tried the plastic clips?

The plastic are worse than the metal. They switched to the metal to fix the problem. Oil the inside of the clip and load only 7 not 8. This seamed to help mine. Haven't had a problem with jamming or mis feeding since. Probley about 100 rounds since the last jam. Never leave the clips loaded when not in use. This weekens the spring wich is the real problem in the design.

I have 6 metal clips {3 for HMR and 3 for .22 mag, same clip} and this is what I did. Pull the bottom black plastic peice off the bottom of the clip. The spring will come out with the orange thingy. stretch the string out a bit, an inch or so. then take the orange thingymerdoubous and make sure it has nice crisp sides, I had to lightly sand some plastic burs down. Then clean the inside of the metal clip with some brake cleaner or gun solvent. Put clip back together and load with 6-7 rounds, 8 compressed the spring too much. Everytime you clean your gun, clean these clips. Lots of residue does go down in there and gums up the works. When I first got my 597 the clip jammed constantly, and really p'd me off. I dont remember the last time any of my clips jammed.

I try this daily with people Jack.. They don't get it.. People ask me for clips daily and I say we don't carry any machinegun supplies ;P

I had one for a week brought it back and bought another bolt
I bought 3 mags and they all did the same thing.they tell me there prety good once you get the bugs worked out,But I dont have the patients to have to mess with a new gun that doesnt function as it should.
You could by a Cz for about the same money, and a Savage or Marlin for alot less. They shoot strieght and go bang every time,Just my 2 cents.
Bob.
