6.5 creedmore vs. 25-06 vs. 260 Remington?

Im looking for a new long range coyote rifle. I have a few rifles picked out depending on the caliber. I cant decide between the 260 remington, the 6.5 creedmore, and the 25-06. Ill be exclusively hunting coyotes at most any ranges within 500 yards, and I may be doing some target shooting farther than that. I dont need a fur friendly cartridge so that isnt a problem. Recoil also wont be a problem and I think factory ammo cost is pretty similar between the three. I dont have any experience with the three so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

the advantage of the 6.5 creedmoor showed up if you are hand loading and want to use long bullets, the shorter length of the 6.5 vs the 260 allows for more room in the magazine, otherwise not a lot of difference in the 2, 25-06 is a completely different round, long action, more recoil and not necessary IMO

On the other hand the 25-06 with a good ballistic tip is a proven long range caliber. I suspect all three achieve their best with hand loading. Check your local ammo suppliers to see which caliber they're most likely to stock. You sound like you may not yet reload.

That's what I was thinking. Plenty of good long range bullets for the 243 win.

You couldn't go wrong with either of these though I think .264 is starting to get into a large caliber. If it were me i'd vote for .243 or .25-06, I have both, and like both.

I have a 25-06 Rem. and a 260 Rem., which was chosen over the
6.5 Creedmore. First, let me say the nothing about the
25-06 Rem. should be considered "fur-friendly", or at least
not in any of the bullets I have loaded for. The 85 gr. Nosler
BT is a grenade, out of the 25-06 Rem...Gives red mist new
meaning.

Me personally, I would opt for a 6mm Rem. if I was considering
a long range coyote gun. But your list is limited to .257 cal
and .264 cal cartridges, so in that case, count me in the 260
Rem. choice camp. I REALLY like mine. I am working a 100 gr.
Barnes TTSX load at the moment, that is showing promise, but
I quickly threw together a Sierra 85 gr. HP load for barrel
breaking, that shot sub-MOA with little effort. If you
are looking for fur friendly, work with Berger Match bullets,
in 6.5mm. The bullet will have a nice BC, and the open tip
match style bullet will expand much less than expected.

This looks like it could morph into another one of those "I like bacon" threads with all of the "you should buy what I shoot because it's obviously better" suggestions.

Make your own choice from your list and ignore the others if these three options are what you have whittled your choices down to. You're the one who needs to be happy.

I shoot the 260 Rem., and absolutely love the round.

If you are only going to shoot factory ammo, I would probably look at the 25-06. 260 Rem. factory ammo is very limited.

It sounds like you want to shoot factory ammo, so I would definitely go with the 6.5 creedmore. 25 bucks for 20 rounds for match ammo loaded with Amax's. If you want to reload I would definitely look at the 6mm's for your needs, less recoil and flatter shooting.

I agree, the .243 should be considered an option. The key advantage being that lots of factory ammo choices are available almost anywhere.

Sticking with the choices listed, if factory ammo is going to be the only option, I'd say .25-06 unless you intend to buy mail-order in larger quantities, such that you'd never need to depend on what's on the local shelves.

I tried to talk myself into a 6MM Rem, but the hassle factor of getting one and then keeping it fed did not seem to be worth the performance boost over .243
