HI:

Looking for some help concerning my first ar build in a long time. I had a 223 space gun built by Compass Lake Engineering years ago which would shoot as well as the majority of bench guns. He told me to check out this site for something in a different caliber. GREAT SITE. I spoke with several builders
from this site and was thinking of Mikes 25 or 6.5 DTI. Everyone here seems to love them. I Just found a local range (45 miles) from me that offers ranges out to 1000 yards. They have shoots each weekend from 100-300 yard, 565 meters, and 1000 yard shoots. Im now thinking of the 264 lbc. Has anyone heard of bolt problems with the 264 lbc/6.5 grendel. Two of the manufacturers told me today there are no problems. One told me (Alexander Arms) he offers a High Use bolt for 20 dollars more. He said some people were loading close to 65000 psi , and eventually shears off one lug. I intend to place a order with Mike at DTI. Mike stated that his 6.5 DTI works best with light to med. bullets. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. I also spend some time in Maine each year so a hunting weight bullet could be used, although the range is not a big factor .

Thanks Again Tom

If you are thinking long range the 264LBC or the 6mm Hagar would be the first two that come to mind. I have a 6mmDTi and while it is the cat's meow out to 500- 600 yards with 75-80gr bullets not sure how it would handle the longer ranges as I have not tried it that far.

Most people find that their 264LBC like the 123's over the heavier 6.5 bullets. It will get to a thousand, as I got a second round hit at that range a few weeks ago when we were shooting steel.

But there is a definite difference in velocity and energy. I could barely hear the hit and no splash at all to the paint, whereas the .260 and 6.5-284 we were shooting earlier were unmistakable on impact in both sound and splash.

I don't know about the DTI personally, but all the reviews here make them out to be very solid rounds. I think it has similar performance to the LBC from reading threads a while back.

The LBC has a shorter fatter case allowing you to seat bullets out further and still fit a mag. I don't know much about the DTI...

If your wanting to play at long ranges I would go with a 6.5/264 or go with 6 WOA or the 6mm Hagar like venatic says. I wouldn't worry to much about the lugs on the Gren/lbc as it has happened it is not as common as some say kinda like slam fires in a AR.

BubbaChicken get out from under that rock would ya!!!
