So I have a new Grendel upper on it's way and want to go one or two ways with it; 1. Light weight upper with carbon fiber hand guard and an ace light weight stock (light and strictly a hunting machine) or 2. Light weight four rail handguard with a RRA A2 operator stock (more of a sniper/tactical look) thoughts anyone? It will be used as my deer and coyote gun but I do have a 223 as well. Whichever I don't pick for the Grendel I'll build the 223 in.

I'm thinking seriously about getting the 6.5 as well for a re-build... I've had the ACE stock and it's not much lighter than the standard A2...but it does look 'sexier'...and I liked the foam cheek piece..I may add a piece of foam to the collapsible one I have now..

I have one AR with the lightweight carbine hand guard that I'm considering for the re-build

that has the small four rail that I have my flash light hanging on..

I'll be looking at the lightweight contour barrel as well since it won't be used for shooting a high volume of rounds at any given time..I tend to go strictly for function over style on a personal basis...The collapsible stock gives me more comfort for adjustment with the range of clothing I wear during the year..

I would vote for the light weight option. I just got an Ace stock when I put together the lower for my 25 wssm. I love it, wish I had more of them. They are lighter, but not a lot, like OT said. But the foam is really nice in the winter, and I like the rubber recoil pad, not so much to tame recoil but because you can stand the thing in a corner if you have to and not worry about the butt sliding out from under it and crashing to the floor.

Don't laugh, that's a legit concern!

The grendel is a much better "sniper" cartridge, but i would suggest using that upper as the lightweight build w/ carbon fiber for hunting. Make the .223 all tactical, then you could use it for home defense or something and use the rails for lights, grips, etc. I have a DPMS CF handguard (also check out Clark Custom and Hiperform) on my RRA Coyote Carbine and love it. It would look much better with a stainless barrel though...hopefully yours is. A Plum Crazy lower would help keep the weight down also. I wish I would've gotten one before buying my rifle complete (I'll just have to build another!). You could put the ACE on the Grendel and I would get the RRA Operator collapsible stock for the tactical .223. Those RRA Operators are really nice stocks! Hope this helps!

I think ya'll convinced me that I wasn't crazy for wanting to keep the grendel as my hunting rig and plain jane. I'll post up some pics here after I get it done. Should be light with that ace stock and light handguard. I know the barrel is most of the front end weight but every little ounce helps.

I have the Ace stock on my Grendel and also my R15 223 and love the stock, And like OT said its just plain sexy.LOL

here is the new 6.5 grendel, it has an aluminum handguard which will be swapped out for an armalite carbon fiber handguard when it arrives. It is a New Frontier Armory upper with a 18" stainless black hole barrel. This will be my no nonsense hunting rig. As pictured it weighs just around 8lbs and wears a vortex 4-12x40. Only upgrade will be a trigger when I get around to it.
