6-6.5x47 Lapua or 6.5x47 Lapua

I am putting together a long range varmint - ground hog match gun and am having a hard time deciding on a caliber. I am stuck between the 6-6.5x47 lapua and 6.5x47 lapua. I am building it on a new savage target action.

Can anyone reccomend one or the other as well as twist and barrel length?

I have a 6BR and it shoots great, so I prefer the 6mm. I was shooting next to a guy with the 6X47 and he won the match. But if you click on the link below you can read all about the 6.5.

The 6x47, and the 6-6.6x47 are way different cases. The 6x47 is a 222 mag neck up. The 6.5x47 lupua is much bigger about the same case as a 250 sav. or a little bigger than a 6mm dasher. For long range I would use a 7" twist with 107 Serria MK, or 105 Bergers.

I was talking about the Lapua, which the post was about. If you check the link, it is about the lapua based round. I just didn't put Lapua after the 6x47.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. However, I'd go with the 6mm version. Heck after you win a few GH matches you may actually want to shoot some real ones with the new rifle. Reports say you can get the 70gr noslers up to 3700 with the new 6-6.5x47 L (it needs to find a better name). That will rate for some serious WOOOOOOAAAP in the field. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Plus I think a .264" bullet is alot to send down range to kill a 12 lb critter... others don't... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Look on 6mmbr.com for a LOT of info on each cartridge.

Here's the combo I thought, 6x47L, no-turn, 26", 1:10, either pac-nor or douglas xx premium, heavy varmint or straight contour.

I was recently impressed at a 600 yard BR match with a Pac- Nor barrel, the shooter shot a 3.3" 10 shot group with a 1-8" 6 Dasher. Winning HV-gun.

I just built a long range varmint rifle on a 6 Dasher. I have just fireformed some cases so far, but velocity looks good even with the fireforming cases, right around 2958 fps for the 108 Bergers. I expect 3050 fps with fully formed cases.

I chose the .271 no neck turn chamber and a Broughton 1-8" 5C. Here's some fireforming groups but no windflags.

I spent half of the day looking for a rockchuck and couldn't find one. So I had to settle for some rock shooting.
