6.8 spc loads

I got my 6.8 finished and I loaded some 95gr ttsx. I shot a few and checked pressure but I never checked the speed. Groups are an inch at 100yds. So I loaded up 50. Going to use them for deer. Well this past weekend I chrono'd four and they were 2701, 2694, 2706 and 2703fps. Its nosler brass, 28.5gr A2200, cci 400, arp 16in barrel. The barrel has 18 rounds through it.
Everything I read people say that's their "favorite load" is 30gr of A2200 @ 2900. Yes I know every barrel is different. What are you getting out of the 95ttsx. I thought 2700 was real good.

Might have better luck asking over on 68forums.

This year I will be using Cavity Back 105gr MKZ bullets with A2200, Hornady brass, CCI#450 primers, COL around 2.850". Hoping to get 2,750 fps out of my 16" Wilson Combat barrel. 29gr for this load seems to be the ticket for everyone else, but since I'm using Hornady brass I'll have to start low and work up, like always.

I use the 95 gr. TTSX bullet, in my deer load. I don't recall if that load uses Reloder 10x or Reloder 7, but it chronies around 2850 FPS. There are no signs of pressure on the fired cases, so I might be able to push it a bit more, but I have a sub-MOA accuracy node, at 2850 FPS, so I go with that. It is a very effective deer load, with some impressive shock evidence. My rifle has an 18", AR-P barrel, with 5R rifling, and a 1:11.25" twist. Very consistent groups with 95 gr. TTSX bullets, and 90 gr Sierra HPs, and 90 gr. Speer TNTs.

If the length on your barrel is 16" and a 1:10" twist, 2700 FPS is probably a good velocity to go with. If you are running a slower twist, you might get another 100 fps or so out of your load. But there isn't anything wrong with a good grouping load, launching the 95 gr. TTSX at 2700 FPS.

Yeah I've looked on the 6.8 forums. Read until my eyes bled. Sounds like I'm close. Barrel is brand new too.

Thanks Squeeze, I might have to try some R10x or R7.

I think 2700 from just 28.5gr is fine from a 16". If everyone else is pushing them to 3000fps with 30gr, not sure if theirs is 16" or 18". I bet you could get some more fps from yours but if the accuracy doesn't hold, it wouldn't be worth it to me.

Could also try CCI#450 magnum primers, might give the powder a little more burn and umph. Just have to work up again.

I’m running 30.3gr 8208xbr and accuracy is great. I know it’s not ideal burn rate but I had it to try using with my 115 noslers. I’ll try to get out and crony some stuff next week if the wind isn’t blowing 30 miles an hour

My deer load using the same bullet is 30.2 AA2200/Rem 7 1/2 primers/S&B brass loaded to 2.285". I thought this load had been crono'd but can't find it anywhere.

The Chrono info could find is this..
90gr. GD/ 29.2gr of RE7/S&B brass/ Rem 7 1/2 primer loaded to 2.285 shot the best for me. 2844 FPS avg.
2.275" =2815 FPS
2.295" =2835 FPS
These were five shot groups.

I saw that load data for the 458. I am lusting hard for a 458, but I keep looking at the cost to get into it, and really don't need another fun gun, or even another thumper hunter! But I am thinking the next bonus I might buy another gun I don't NEED.

In the 6.8 SPC, I started with RL-10x, and got some very accurate loads developed. Then I read about RL-7(IIRC on 6.8Forums) getting a bit more velocity out of slower twist 6.8 barrels, and since I had some, gave it a try, with a couple of my different bullet loads. I did squeeze a bit more velocity out of some of the loads, and didn't see group size increase appreciably. So if you chase velocity, then test some RL-7 loads, but if accuracy is more important, the smallest groups seem to come from RL-10x, in the 6.8, at least in my experience, with my 6.8 barrels.
