6 coyotes killing a buck!!

My cousin and I found 3 deer on a frozen lake one morning. Yotes had chased them out on the ice and then eaten the hindquarters out of all three. When deer hit the ice, their front legs splay and it rips the cartilage holding them together. They fall and can't get up. The deer we found were still alive, but suffering terribly. We didn't have the tags to shoot them so we had to get the sheriff to shoot them. He took one for the food pantry and gave us the other two. although there wasn't much left.

I've never seen a deer down in the front end on ice. That's interesting. I've always seen a broken pelvis and deer down in the rear end.

I counted sixteen taking a wounded bull elk down, 3 didnt live after I borowed my clients rifle.
And I read where they documented a group take down a buffalo in Yellowstone. These critters are truly amazing animals.

Just 2 weeks ago I watched a single yote chase 4 WT doe around a wheat field. He never got close and gave up. He would have died if I had a rifle, but it was a long way from where I was watching and all I had was a bow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

I would think that it would be amiazing to watch that, and I think i would consider myself lucky. I guess I dont see it as a bad thing. More amazing than anything. I would never pass the chance at a yote though.

Here in north Florida our deer herd was being decimated by a coyote population explosion. The deer have learned to deal with it better now and the bigger does seem to be able to protect their fawns better but it's still rare to see a doe with two yearlings where it used to be more common than one yearling.

Our coyotes are BIG and don't often pack up like in some parts of the country.
