6 coyotes on one stand

The ranch manager on one of the places I hunt has been after me to come shoot some coyotes. It has been hotter than heck, but a couple of weeks ago was putting pressure on me so we made a hunt.

We only called in one coon that night, but a few days later he was back on me that they were seeing coyotes. Then this past weekend he was called and said we needed to hit it again. So, we made plans for last night and I drove over early to make a drive through and pick some spots.

First spot looked really good, and finally heard one howl way off after about 10 minutes, but after 20 nothing so we moved on. Second spot I had a couple of sets of eyes after just a few minutes, but they disappeared. From that spot we walked back to the truck and then a few hundred yards in the other directions.

Just as I got to where I wanted to call, I saw a coyote in the pipeline. I rushed to set down my caller, set up my sticks and get the light on. He was leaving but a lip squeak stopped him and I shot. He ran to the right into the brush (coyote #1).

I walked out about 30 yards towards where it was, set the caller down and returned to my sticks and started coyote pup screams. About 15 seconds and I had a coyote pop out beyond the caller. I shoot him (coyote #2)and a few second later I see the ranch manager shining his light into the trees to my right and another coyote is running right in on us. I shoot this one at 10 yards (coyote #3). Then there are eyes back where the second coyote was and and he is coming from farther back. I let him come and when he gets right I shoot him (coyote #4). Almost immediately I hear the ranch manager whisper and he has eyes coming from the opposite direction back towards the truck. He stops and I shoot (coyote #5) about 100 yards out.

A few seconds after that shot we hear a coyote bark out in the pines. I change from pup screams to coyote death cry and about 30 seconds later I have a coyote pop out right on the caller. Bang! (coyote #6).

Look at my watch and 6 minutes has past. I let it play another minute or so and we start trying to round up coyotes. They all dropped in their tracks except for the first one. We looked, but either I missed rushing the shot, or we just didn't find it.

We called 2 more spots with no luck, and we packed up for the night. All young coyotes, but most I ever shot on one stand.

you won't forget that stand for a few years. Nice job.
I killed my 6 pack just a couple of years ago, BUT I found all 6 of mine.

Everybody knows that you cant kill coyotes when using lights. Way to go. Pretty good stand I would say. Did your hart go up any, I know mine would have been off the charts. Good shooting.

That was an exhilarating read. Horrible problem to have land owners nagging you to come kill coyotes

I suspect he'll definitely be wanting some repeat business. Congrats on an amazing set.

Ain't it crazy how it can go from zero to a hundred from one night to the next or one stand to the next like that?

You guys that are piling them up lately, sure have me jonesing for some cooler weather and the smell of sage and gunsmoke!

Nicely done! I did the same thing one time. Shot 6 but couldnt find one of them. There was coyotes laying everywhere! Hard to remember where they all were when the dust settles. 5 is still pretty stout, at least that is what I kept telling myself.
