6 PPC

I was looking for a caliber that is inherently accrurate for my Encore.

Would the 6 PPC be good for accurate plinking, coyotes and varmints?

i have no experience w/ this round, except for reading about it in reloading manuals. since it was developed as a target round im sure it would be a very accurate caliber. and im sure w/ lighter bullets like 55-70 grains or so would work great on yotes and other varmints.

I have a friend of mine that shoots the 6 PPC in bench rest matches and it is very accurate. He has a target that he placed sencond place in a match in Ohio a few years ago and the 5 shot group measures 0.122", he said the group that beat him was 0.118". His gun is a Stole action with a Jewel trigger and a Douglas double button ss target barrel that he personally picked out, He's the shop foreman at Douglas Barrels. So I would think that would be plenty accurate for just about anybody's needs.
Just an opinion!

I have the Ruger 77 VT Mark 2 chambered in 6mm PPC. This gun has a factory chamber (not a tight necked chamber like the match guns), and it shoots incredibly well. I use Varget, 27.0gr., and 70 gr. Sierra Matchkings...not the typical varmint/predator round but it has produced bang/flops for me thus far. The 70 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips didn't group as well for me. I think you will be very satisfied with this caliber and bullet availability.

I have a Sako varmint in 6PPC. It is very accurate and easy to load for but brass is expensive. I shot one coyote with it using 70 grain Nosler BT's at 257 yards according to the range finder. My only complaint with the caliber is that it is not as flat shooting as a 22-250, 243 or even the 22PPC.

I agree.
The 6ppc is damn accurate, but as a long range preformer on critters, it gives up velocity and energy downrange. If you are keeping your shots fairly close-(200-300 yards), The PPC would work great.

The 6PPC was built for one purpose, and that purpose is short range benchrest. Having said that-I personally would have no problem using it for varmints. The recoil is minimal too, which makes another case for using it as a shooting application for small varmints like PDs...

I don't think you will get the same level of groups as with a bolt action rifle in 6ppc for that reason might be better with a 6br. Just my .02

I own a 6ppc and I to would go with a 6BR, reason being the trajectory advantage is pretty substancial and with a hunting rifle the group size wouldn't be much different, it may be a lil more accurate in PPC but varmints aren't impressed with numbers on a dial caliper

Eddie my fiend was shooting 6PPC, and 22PPC 100 yard bench matches mostly here on the east coast. He was having some eye problems recently and even had a surgery to try to help with the problem he was having. I haven't talked with Bill in a while so I'm not sure if he has been able to return to the bench. I know he was shooting matches in W.Va, Ohio, Tenn, NC, SC, Kentucky and some others that I can't remember. He also has made a few trips out to the Dakota's to work on the prarie dog populations. I saw him dust a ground hog at about 800 yards on a farm in Greenbriar county West Virginia with his 220 swift years ago.
