62gr ELD-VT (starting load) in a 1:8 .22-250

I’m looking for an optimal powder for this projectile and a starting charge weight. I’m planning on starting about .025” off the lands. Does anyone have any experience with this bullet in their 22–250? Not book data that I could find. Rifle is a 22in 1:8 twist tikka.

I shot that same combo a while back in my tikka. Started at 34 grains of Varget and worked up to 35.5 grains if I remember correctly. Speeds were around 3200-3350ish. I didn’t get the best accuracy with them and stuck with my 53 grain vmaxs for a little better speeds.

No help on a 22-250, but I shoot them in a 26" 22-204 8" twist at 3300, & load them in the lands a bit.

Made a 2nd round kill on a prairie dog at 650 a couple weeks ago.

That’s awesome l!

Maybe I’ll try loading them a little longer. I started them today at .0250 off the lands. What powder are you running?

I’m gonna give em another try before I move on but I’m gonna load them a little longer. Assuming you had an 8 twist tikka? No problems with spinning a 53gr Vmax too fast?

Yeah the 8 twist. No problems with the 53 vmax

I have your same rifle, and am having good luck with CFE223 with the 62 gr VT. About a grain off max, and getting around 3400 fps. Very accurate in my gun, and deadly on coyotes.

Do you know how far off of the lands you are?

I shot a few groups at .010 off the lands today all were 4 shot groups with Varget. Okay results (.7-.9 inch groups) but not great.

Sorry, late getting back. Not positive distance off lands, but OAL that I'm using is 2.620. In my gun, CFE223 was quite a bit faster than Varget. I do all my testing now with my thermal scope. Most of my groups run well less than an inch.
