6BR brass question

I've had my 6br for ten years now and my supply of Remington brass is getting old. I'm thinking of buying Lapua brass to replace my aging Remington brass. I think it was on 6br.com that I read that some 6br brass is dimensionally a little different. Can I use Lapua brass in my rifle that has been been using Remington brass? If the dimensions are a little different is it a matter of running the Lapua brass through my sizer? I love the 6br for putting coyotes to sleep. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I believe the cartridge was standardised in 1983.The rem chambering is shorter than the norma chambering [neck length]so you really need to know which chamber you have. Alternatively, you could buy lapua, or norma brass, and trim it to rem specs.Remington still make 6br brass, but to what spec i dont know. Its a pain, i know, i,ve just had a sako rebarrelled in 6mmbr Norma, so i know what i,m getting. To be honest, the rem chambering seems to be peculiar to the states, europe and the uk, always have used the norma chamber, mainly because we tend to use it for target shooting mainly, and wish to shoot the heavy bullets.

Who manufactured the rifle?

The cal. should be on the barrel, 6mmBR Rem, 6mmBR Norma ?

Lapua Brass is based on the 6BR Norma, which is the most popular 6BR chamber today. The gun being only 10 years old, I don't think you have the original 6mm Remington Benchrest chamber and if that's the case all you have to do is trim the lenght as the 6mm Rem BR only has a shorter neck.

Hope that help.

My rifle was built by Darrell Holland. The barrel says, 6mm bench rest. My OAL 1.56 not the 1.52 that sometimes is show as max OAL. Sounds like I am going to have to try some Lapua brass, thanks for the input

Don't hold me too this but believe if you have a rifle chambered for Lapua or Norma you can use Rem 6BR brass. If you have a Rem 6BR Chamber, Lapua or Norma does not fit. Only way to find out for sure with your rifle is to get a piece of Lapua or Norma and see if it fits.

The neck on the Norma 6 BR is slightly longer, the base to the mouth at 1.5598 and the base is slightly larger at .4709. I doubt Darrell chambered it for the Remington BR unless someone wanted it that way. You can probably trim the Lapua neck and use it in your chamber if it is in fact a Remington BR. The Norma base is only about .001 larger than the Remington base.
