Was looking into getting one of these rifles. Not sure what brand. I am wanting the 257 weatherby but the problem is i am wanting a left handed one and i can not seem to find one . Unless i want to spend 2000 or more which i don't. Just wondering how much difference is there between them. Wanting to use it for deer and wolves. Plus i would like something in-between my 300 win a,nd a 22-250.

I'm in the same boat. I too am left handed and want a 257 weatherby. The factory Vanguards come with a monte carlo stock with a cheek piece for righties and I don't want to spend over $1200 for a left handed Mark V.
I could get a 25-06 in a M70, that would be sweet, but I'd be settling for the 25-06 when I really want a 257. So, I think what I'm going to do is buy a Vanguard and then order a $99 replacement stock from Boyd's.

That was what i was thinking of doing also. The vanguard is right handed or left? Because i was told they never made it in left. Or are you getting the right and changing the stock to get rid of the cheek piece? If i understand you right.

while not a huge fan of Savage, if you are looking for a lh model, savage seems to have the widest variety available. The Axiom is available in 243 and 25-06

Why dont you buy a lefty rem 700 in 7mm rem mag and buy a new take off 257wby barrel and have a smith screw it on and headspace it then you would have a left handed rem 700 in 257wby? you could do this for under $1000 and it would be a true lefty rifle?

The Vanguard only comes in a right handed bolt action, which is fine as I actually prefer a right handed bolt. You are correct, I am only replacing the stock to get rid of the cheek piece.

I held a Vanguard yesterday again and am now reconsidering whether to even buy one. I love the .257 caliber, I'm just not a fan of the Vanguard rifle. I also held a new Winchester M70 featherweight, which I absolutely loved. I already own a 1980's featherweight in .243 and would love to have another in a different caliber. I could get a featherweight in .257 Rob, 25-06, or .264 win mag, all very cool calibers, but not as perfect in my mind as a .257 weatherby.

I just don't know what to do....it's driving me crazy!

I have a Remington .257 weatherby (right handed) and really like it. In some reviews it shot better than the actual weatherby Mark V in the same caliber.

I think for most uses, the 25-06 is the better choice of caliber. The weatherby needs a 26" barrel to get the added velocity and reduce muzzle blast.

Just got a new Vanguard S2 in 25-06 and couldn't be happier. $500 out the door and the fit and finish are amazing. The stock for being plastic is really rigid and after taking the recoil pad off noticed they filled it with foam and an aluminum spacer. The trigger is really, really good, a clean 2 1/2#. All are sub moa models now, which you just don't get in other popular guns. I like how the finish is a matte black and the bolt is very smooth. I've always shot the Rem 700, Ruger 77 or Win 70 but for the money I think the Vanguard is a better gun right now. I think the other manufacturers guns in the $5-700 range are a little rougher. For left handed use I think bell and carlson makes a nice medalist stock or go with the cheap boyds stock. I wanted a 257 wthrby too but after talking to others that have them the extra muzzleblast, kick and longer barrel weren't worth the slight range increase you get. I'm mainly using mine for coyotes to muledeer and the 06 is plenty of power for what I need.

What Muzzle blast?? I cant tell the difference. I am getting 3450 fps with a 100gr Nosler out of a 24" barrel. It shoots .25-.35 very consistantly, obviously a 26" would be better but the 24 is a little handier.

A little late on this thread but you can buy a mark v barreled action with a cheap cheap plastic stock for about a grand throw on a replacement lefty stock and you have a really nice action with your choice of stock for 1200-1400

Huge quarterbore fan here. I like em all. I like the vanguards, but my big complaint is the 24" barrel on the 257. I would prefer a 26" to really get everything out of that cartridge that you can. If you are giving up velocity to a shorter barrel then that defeats the purpose of stepping up to the mag cartridge. Might as well go with a 25-06 that can be reloaded wayyyyy cheaper. And easier to find the southpaw version. 25-06AI is another option for more velocity. The cool factor of the 257 is pretty hard to deny though.

If I were born wrong-handed I would opt for a Ruger Hawkeye in 25-06. The Weatherby is certainly more better but finding one with the bolt handle on the wrong side is going to get expensive.

Same rifle is chambered in .243 and has a 9" twist if you want to shoot some heavies (I would)and I think that'd be a better route than searching for a left handed 6mm.

I have 2 RH Mark V Deluxe chambered 1 in 300 Wtby. &1 in 257Wtby I havent used in a while. I worked up some loads for 257 in 87,100 & 120 gr that were pretty nice groups. I might consider selling.
