I want to know anything about this caliber. how fast, how flat can it shoot, effective range and anything else. it will be in a 03-a3 springfield action. Also any advise on a barrel probably 26" heavy sporter conture perferably less than $200.
 
You will probably have trouble getting your gun rebarreled for $200. It will cost you in the neighborhood of $125 to get it chambered and fitted to your gun. Your best bet to get in your price range is to find a 243 take off barrel and use that. The next consideration is twist: 1/10 and under for heaver bullets (90 and up) 1/12 and up for lighter bullets. Casings are easy to find, just buy 6.5-284 and resize them down to 6mm. I was at the range yesterday with my son's 6mm-284 developing loads and we were getting 3900+ with 70 grain bullets out of 24" barrel. There is a lot of info on the internet on the 6mm-284 you just need to do some research.
 
There is not much point in burning that much powder for short range stuff. To utilize the long range potential of this caliber you have to use a fast twist barrel to shoot the heaviest, highest BC bullets. Shooting the 105 and 107 VLD bullets it is a fantastic 1000-1500 yard caliber. The downside is a barrel life of only 5-600 rounds before you start getting bullet blowups. As long as you are not shooting colony varmints, 5-600 rounds will take many years to shoot.

PS: A $200 budget is a bit unrealistic since a top quality barrel alone is $300+ and you want to use a good gunsmith which will add at least another $200, probably more, to have it done right.
 
vgb, a good barrel and chamber not counting any action work is around $500. You can pick up a good used BR barrel from www.shooterscorner.com and would make a good varmit barrel they are normally in 6mm 1/14 twist barrels and have less than 1k fired rounds. When you get into the LVD bullets for the 6mm they perform well at a certain velocity so you don't need that large case capacity of the 284 more like a 6Dasher for the 1000yd or Tubbs 6x(?) for the 600yd. For bullet weight around 80 to 100gr the 284 is a good case more velocity than a 243 or 6mmrem need around 1/12 or 1/10 twist barrels. My 6x284 has a 1/14 twist barrel with a 26" barrel also has a tight neck. K&P built the rifle for me on a rem long 700 action. I'm just now starting to use 80gr bullets. I've got a tight neck 6.5x284 set up for the 142gr SMK and really getting to like that rifle alittle more than the 6x284.

I hope you don't mind me saying this but I'm reluctant to say much about velocity or range since these are wildcat rounds and some barrels are faster than others and there is alittle more than just range and velocity when putting one of these rifles together. You need to provide alittle more information as to what are you think, if this is a hunting,varmit or paper shooting rifle or what ever. You have bullets for the 115gr LVD to 55gr and twist from 1/7 to 1/15 for the 6mm. Just my .02
