Is there any wildcats from the 50 BMG that shoot a 6mm or anything at all really?
I was thinking 105 VLD bullet or heavier probably 1:12 or 1:14 twist barrel. Velocity unknown but im guessing its over 4000 fps

Try about 8000 fps and one very scalded barrel after about 1 shot. A 7mm STW case necked down to 6mm would move a 105 at over 4000 fps. A 50 BMG would melt it. Not going to happen.

interesting reading I really had not idea what would turn up but I had figured that someone had done some kind of radical wildcat thats what I was wondering.

I guessing WAY over. I would also guess that should you ever succeed in making such a beast, barrel life would be 20 shots or 1 lb of powder, whichever came first.

I also wonder how many form dies you would need to make brass and how long a barrel you would need to get a good burn out of 200+ grains of powder. Be interesting but extreme to the obscene.

I thought I remember seeing somewhere that with modern propellants somwhere in the 5000 fps range is as fast as attainable. I just dont remember where I read this.

Think about necking it down to a bigger cal (30-458 or so) and finding some high B.C. bullets...by then you probably may as well stay with the 50 though.

wow a good response the only reason I even thought about this is that the cheytac is a much better load then the 50BMG IMO.

With that in mind the 6mm could be an ultimate canyon to canyon yote or wolf killer

Never looked at pac-nor's page that close. That 6.5-50bmg would be a blast. I have empty brass from my regular 50bmg, but necking it down that far would awsome, do you know if he does 45-50" barrels? That would be one just for the hell of it.

BTW, what kind of action would you need?

If you goto www.reloadersnest.com they have loads for a .22-.243 middlestead, I think it was rated at about 5278 fps. It was the fastest round round on their site. Then they had the round with the most ke. @ about 14,412 foot pounds from a .700 nitro express.

50BMG and Cheytac have two different missions.

How about a 600 nitro, necked down to a .224? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
That would be a great yote getter. L.O.L!!!!

A 17-300 Ultra Mag or a 17-BMG Improved 40.
