Pawn shop find. Rem700, bore looks good, good crown, some bluing wear, wood needs to refinshed. Ordered and got in some win brass and RCBS dies. My question to those who own or have had experience with this caliper please share your experience. I want to used for yotes but this Fall it will see some action with the kids at deer camp. Thanks in advance. Gilbert

Hello Gilbert, I had a 6mm in one of the old style rugers and it was a lights out coyote rifle and is great for the muleys around here. I wish I hadn't sold that rifle. Not a lot of choices from factory ammo but if your reloading, I say buy it! You will not regret it. It's a great round for coyote and deer, the only other combo round I like better is the 25-06 but the 6mm will do just fine.

That 6mm should work fine. But if you got that rifle at a really good price, I'd love to have it just for the action and I'd be putting on a new barrel in the caliber or quality of my choice. Enjoy that find!

I have two 6mm Remingtons, a 600 mohawk and a 722 (244), both shoot the 75 gr Hornady hollow-point with IMR 4350 pretty well. I haven't tried heavier bullets in them as I am a light bullet person.

yea, I actually got it for the action. but wasn't to much to get the brass and you never know it might just shoot. I got some 70 match kings, berger 80's and 75 hornady's on hand. I will get around to shooting it this weekend. thanks for the replies and keep em coming.

We use to have a pair of Ruger Varminters in 6mm Remington. They were bedded, new triggers, and a few other minor tweaks and they were great on 600 yard steel rams. We had an 18" dia 1000 yard gong that we could ring nearly everytime after figuring out the wind drift. A great caliber for many things.

Its a good caliber. I have been working with the 6mm rem. this past year and have enjoyed it. I would look to the 95 grain nosler ballistic tip and 46.5 grains of h4831. I think thats load that shoots nicely.

Great cartridge!

I used mine to take an antelope buck at 320 yards this past
year. I was shooting a 80 gr. TTSX bullet, and the goat
folded like a cheap tent.

For coyotes, my rifle is particularly fond of Berger 68 gr.
bullets...This is not a fur friendly bullet for some shot
placements.

For deer hunting, I wouldn't be afraid of using my 80 gr.
TTSX antelope load, but for those that like a heavier
bullet, the 100 gr. Sierra Pro Hunter shoots EXTREMELY
well in my rifle, and a few other 6mms I have shot the
load in.

This would be the rifle I would give to a new hunter,
for deer or antelope. It has great energy for clean kills,
with mild recoil.

I own three 6mm's, a 788 w/Shaw barrel, Ruger 77 MKII and a 700 CDL w/Douglas barrel. They all like the 75HP Sierra with RL19. Another very powder for all three is IMR4831 with 75 or 85gr bullets.

I sincerely wish you better luck with that rifle than I had with the pawn shop 700 in 6mm that I bought.

It was worn out but you couldn't tell by looking at it.

I have 2 6mm. One is a Herter's J9, the other a Remington 700 BDL VS. I think they are both too large for coyote if you want to save the hides, if you don't want to save them that is another matter.

thanks for the replies, we cleaned up the rifle and this is what we found; dated it to 1965, has a rough spot when a tight patch is runned down the barrel :(, trigger needed work and now it breaks at 2.5 pounds, and stock is in fair condition with no cracks.
I loaded up some rounds with sierra and hornady 70/75 with H4350. Its a 700 so should have the tight twist. Mounted a 3x9, and lapped the rings. I haven't taken pics but will soon. Now I just need time to get it to the range and see what I bought. will see if it needs more work such as a bedding and pillars. Thanks again, Gilbert

That a great rifle to start a kid out on. Thats what I bought my Son to deer hunt with when he was 12. He killed quite a few deer that first season. The rifle liked the 100 gr. bullets.
The first deer he shot was a forked horn buck at 120 yards. I was in a tree stand over a ridge from him. I heard 2 shots and then he hooped and hollered " Daddy I got him come look". I got down and when over and this kid had a smile from ear to ear. Then I accused him of buck fever and he must have missed the first shot.(remember he shot twice). He said no I hit him both times. I ask if he was running off and my Son replied No he wasn't running off he just hadn't hit the ground by the time I chambered another round so I shot him again. When we dressed the deer out there were 2 bullet holes, one on one side of a rib and one on the other side. I'm glad the deer dropped as fast as he did or there would have been 1/2 box of shells gone.
