6mmBR build

I have posted a few pages about Savage builds but I think I have a final direction in which I am now heading. I really like the idea of a 6mmBR. This rifle will most likely never see the woods only the range. I would like to shoot out to 600 yards. I am not going to shoot matches, just targets from 100-600 yards would be fun. I do plan on reload for the rifle also.

Here are my thoughts

Savage action with Accu Trigger
28" Criteron Bull Barrel
Action Lug

As far as a stock, I like the looks of the Boyd's Thumbhole in the pepper color.

Scope????
Bases???
Rings???
Dies???

Any help would be great on the project. Thanks

For a scope, something 20+ power with good turrets, fine cross hair, and target dot. Weaver on the lower price range and Luppy on the upper are my preferences but everyone's eyes see things differently.

Rings and bases,,, no help as I don't shoot Savages.

Dies,,, to get the best out of that cartridge an arbor press and Wilson dies are pretty hard to beat.
Second choice would be Forster bushing/bump sizer and BR seater set.

If you really want to have some fun, add some wind flags to that list.
Luck

I will have time to look at and think about glass and dies. I am guessing wnd flags are needed to read the wind? I am new to this distance. I have never shot past 300 so I need to learn a lot about shooting. I hope to make it work out.

Wind flags are for girls...

Just buy a Savage LRPV in 6BR. It will shoot lights out. When you shoot that barrel out, get a Kreiger or Bartlien to replace it. It's one [beeep] of a platform.

Wind flags are for bench shooters at 200 yards and less - take these guys past 300 yards and they are completely lost.

A local group holds 500 yard egg shoots, and they are a riot. They invited a benchrest club to the egg shoots a few years ago, and the bench guys showed up all cocky and braggin'.

When it was their turn to shoot, it was like a kindergarten fire drill - they could not hit anything past 200 yards, and most couldn't even dial in the longer ranges, cuz their scopes didn't have enough elevation.

True that. ^
I shot one at our local range and while I didn't get along with the acu-trigger very well I gotta say, it was one fine shooting rifle in a well thought out package.

Although I am NOT a Savage fan... I do have two LRPV's. One is a 6BR 12 twist & one is a 6BR 8twist (also have a custom 223 barrel & bolthead to change out). They are unbelievable shooters for a factory rifle. I also have benchguns in 6BR (one is even on a custom action) & the LRPV's are [beeep] near as good. For the money they are GREAT guns. My first LRPV has paid for itself (& almost the SIII scope) with winnings from local groundhog/egg shoots.

Figured I would add; I bought my 1st LRPV to break apart & build on (sell the barrel & rechamber with a Kreiger). After I shot the LRPV in stock form, I put the Kreiger barrel on something else...

Personally, if your looking at gun not for hunting & only paper use. I would go with a Savage target action with a left port. After shooting from the bench with a left port you'll never want to go back, not to metion the target action is stiffer, has a better trigger, and you won't need a follower (solid bottom). Sell the savage you have now & buy an action from Briggs if you don't go the LRPV route totally.

Not saying the factory rifle is great but I would like to build my own rifle even if it costs a few bucks more. Kind of like fletching arrows, I could buy the ready to shoot but I like to tinker and build things for hunting/fishing/shooting.

I agree with some of the above I have 3 Savage target actions and they all shot good as factory guns but they all shoot better with a Pacnor, Shilen, Benchmark barrel that I put on and they don't foul nearly as bad as the copper mines that where on them from the factory.
Also the Target action can be had in dual port or RBLP or RBRP plus they are alot stiffer than a mod 10 action if you want to hang a 28" bull barrel off it

Ken you aint kidding I wish I could take a picture of the inside of my LRPV 22-250 barrel through my borescope the tool marks look like a file but it is almost the most accurate barrel I own for at least 25 rounds
