6X47 LAPUA

I guess this is a pretty dumb question to ask but who thinks what about the 6x45 Lapua?

I bought one not knowing anything about the caliber because it was a nice gun and I thought a good price, I'll see what you think. It has a 27" Pacnor barrel that was bought in a group purchase and it has exactly 50 fire forming rounds through it. The barrel was fitted to an older Sako action with the original Sako stock that has all dings steamed out of it. It actually looks good and I would rate 95% or higher, the metal 97%. I gave $825.00 for it with 50 fire formed Lapua brass and 100 new Lapua 6.5 Lapua brass. So what's your opinion about the purchase and the caliber? Thanks everyone.

I had a Barnard action rebarreled to a 6x47 Lapua with a reamer and barrel twist for 70 to 80 gr range. (Reamer so I can get to the lands.) I am getting great groups with my Thunderbeast Ultra 7 suppressor attached and up around 3700'/s with 70 gr. Ballistic tip varmint.
Hodgdon has some reload data now, as well as lots of data on the Internet. (Obviously be careful) (also there is a 6x47 round that is NOT this Lapua round.)
Most load data and rifles are set up for heavier match bullets.
Opinion on price - shoot it and if accurate, a great price! You may want to check the twist to see what it is set up for.

What Twist is it?

what bullets you plan on shooting?

There's NO fireforming required for the 6x47L

neck'um down and your done...

I can't speak of that chambering since I don't own one. First let me say that it sounds like a r great rifle that you got at a good price......but I would never rate a stock with "the dings steamed out of it" at 95% or better. Still sounds like a great piece. Let us know how it shoots.

I’ve got the 6.5 and the 22 Lapuas now, guess it wouldn’t hurt to round things out. Hope not, already ordered the stock for the 6mm.

Bowhunt, I'll just say the stock is in great shape with no dings or scratches showing.

For the other questions this is what I was told: built on a L579 action - .276 no turn neck - Pacnor #6 contour 27.5" barrel - 1-10 twist built to shoot 70-80gr bullets.

Is a 1-10 twist right for 70-80gr bullets? What weight range can I use? I want this gun for a long range varmint rifle. Will it handle 60gr Sierra HP's or 75gr A-MAX which I already have?

I'd like to have the barrel cut to 24". Is that too long/short for this caliber? Thanks for all the information.

Gentlemen, Thought I'd throw my $.02 worth in here. This summer I had my first 6x47L built on a trued Remmy 700 action, 1-7.5 Bartlien barrel, Varmint contour, HS Precision stock. I'm shooting Berger 105's right now in it, & it's doing pretty well. Where I live, I usually have opportunities @ Coyotes 4-500+ yards every winter. Looking forward to try my new baby out here soon!! I did have some issues forming brass down to 6mm, from the 6.5L cases (funky looking necks on some). But, so far it shoots great!!!!! And, (Don't give me too hard of a time), I had a brake installed on it too... I was watching clay pigeons exploding @ 300 yards easily. So far I'm loving it!!!!!!! Idaho-45-5R

Try forming cases from 22-250 to 6x47L. Talk about funky necks, and shoulders too! They fire form out fine though and shoot great. Just emnjoy.

Sounds like a shooter!
Your 1-7.5 twist should handle the 115 DTacs if you want to try something different for the longer stuff.

10 twist should allow up to a 90 grain bullet while still shooting the 75 grain bullets fine.

24" is still plenty long enough for that caliber
