6x62 freres

Has or does anyload for this round? This is a European round that is similar to the 6-06. I can not find much info about the round on Google or anywhere, especially in English and imperial measurements.

I have a very good source for the brass and plan to have one spun up on a tikka when I find one and will run a bunch of bullet and powder combos to see if it will be a great predator, deer, target and varmint round. I have heard 3800plus with 75 grain.

From what I have found (Chuck Hawks)factory loads are slightly slower than the 240 Weatherby Mag, virtually a clone for the 6mm-06. You could use data for either one to load your 6x62mm Freres(start low and work up). It is based on 9.3x62 Brass so you should be able to find most of the dimensions you need, you should be able to get a reamer print from PTG.

PTG can supply the reamer and any standard faced long action should fill the bill for you.

CH/4D has dies.

There are a plethora of cartridges that will accomplish the same thing, 6mm-284, 6mm Rem AI, 6mm/243 WSSM on short action. The 6mm-06 and 240 Weatherby mag on long action.

It is your money and you have the itch that needs scratching so fly at it.

I know the chuck hawks info, looking for more experience with the round and actual load data to look at. I know it is close to the 6-06, 6x284, 240 wby.

I import brass, so I can get all the brass I need and Redding makes dies already for it. Thinking a tikka would be a perfect action for this. Looking to play with the 75 to 115 grain bullets. But would be real happy with 85 to 95 grain bullets flying at or over 36 to 3700fps. Run a scirroco, partition or similar for deer, wolves, cougar or similar and run some v max, accubond or something for coyotes bob, cats and other similar game.

Thanks for the info so far, let's get more on here. Hoping this round may be an easy alternative for guys wanting a real horror 6mm and less brass work.

How much easier than to run 25-06 brass into a 6mm-06 die, 6.5-284 into a 6mm-284 die or buy 240 Wea. Mag or 243 WSSM ammo and not have to deal with a single source brass, all with load data availible already..

I think your pretty optimistic with those numbers as factory 85's don't reach 3500.

Sounds like your just trying to peddle brass without paying to be a sponsor.

Take it how you want to take it.

I am planning to shoot this cartridge and test it out with the powders we have and some of the bullets we have. Weather guys are interested or not.

No fire forming, no necking down, not a magnum bolt face seems worth while. I have talked to a guy in Australia that runs the 75 to 87 grains between 3850 and 3725 so optimism, maybe hoping, sure, but we dont know tell we try and sounds like you just have a problem with guys trying new things for them self.
If you dont have worth while In put on this thread then why not move along. Dont think cause the post count is low that I am some newby to the game.

Honest question/ Honest answer.

People here try to give the best info they have to other members, post count has nothing to do with it. I learn something here everyday.

6X62 freres is interesting. And in foreign countries where US brass is hard to get, I am sure they are developing some nice calibers with the brass they have.

Have a donor rifle, reamer ordered. Barrel is here, need dies from Redding and 5hen brass is on it's way now. should have this up and running this fall and ready for the winter coyotes.

Found some heavier bullets I will try 120 and 125 grain to see how they do in this case, but really want to see the mid weights.

Sounds like a fun project to me, Caleb. What barrel are you going with and what twist? A few years ago I put together a .243 AI because I wanted a long range (500+ yd) varminter. Longest kill so far was over 600 yards at a rock chuck. I put it together more for Wyoming prairie dogs but so far have mostly used it (sparingly) on Idaho and Nevada ground squirrels. And being unusual I have a thing for unusual chamberings and that 6x62 sounds to me like it would make a most excellent long range varmint rig. Not going to ditch my .243 AI for one I dont think but it does sound like it would be a fun thing to put together. I hope you do and keep us posted how you like it.

Rusty,
I have also had 243 ai, 1 I shot the 95 hberger vld with a longest kill of 750 on a coyote and the other one I ran 70 grain ballistic tips and furthest was 625 on that.

This rifle will have a 27" 1:7 twist rock creek for the testing to see pressures and velocities.
I will run some 115 dtacs, some lighter weight 6mm like a scirroco, maybe a berger, maybe a 103eld. Not sure how light I will go in the 7 twist, but if all goes well and the brass really holds up well. A guy could run smaller 60 to 75 grain really flat to around 4kfps and for long rock chucks, coyotes etc fo 103 on up and really send them out there a long ways.

Will be running this on a light weight tikka hunting set up, scope probably 4 to 14 power or so, if for longer range I need more glass I could swap a nxs on there.

Very well then. Obviously you aint no rookie at this. Sounds to me like you got the making of a 1000 yard gun with a setup like that. I'd like to see that in action sometime. Cool guns are always cool.

My .243 AI only has a 1/10" twist as I like the 55-87 grain slugs for the kind of shooting that I do. 5-600 yard prairie dogs are a poke and my .223AI and my .22/250 and my .220 Swift will kill them that far. But the .243AI will do it easier. And for sure, I like easy.
