6x68 or 25x68 ?

Looking to build a new upper for a coyote rig. I am interested
in opinions as to your favorite between the two bullet sizes in particular and why.

It may see a little other use. Such as the occasional deer. I have plenty of deer rifles.

My choice would be the 6. I run a 6mmWOA and like the fact that you can run bullets from 58 to 90's without too much trouble. Mine runs the 60-80gr for yotes and the rare whitetail from time to time. Most of the time they are running the 75gr sierra hp's and they flatten yotes. Can't give you any thoughts on the 25.

With 75gr pills out of a 22in barrel pushing it hard I am getting close to 3250. A little more when I drop down to the 60gr. But I don't have my data right in front of me.

The 6x6.8 will run 55-95 g bullets w/ease and it has no issue dropping antelope/deer to 600 yards w/ease w/the 80-95g bullets. I build a 6x6.8 in the AR15 frame and now am putting the same together in a bolt gun.

I'm looking at running an 18 inch barrel on this set up.
I put myself in a bit of a quandary . I ordered a 6 X 68 barrel a couple of weeks ago from Black Hole Weaponry because I was impatient while waiting for their release of the 25 X 68.
Today they released the 25 X 68 for sale. On the 13th they will go on sale for 20% off for their shot show special.
I have always liked the quarter bore, but do I really need one. I am tempted to order another barrel just to compare them and see which one I like the best. On the other hand. I do not have unlimited funds. So if I order, I have one last thing to consider., order a 22 inch and use it for targets as well as a yote gun. Or stick with the 18 inch and eliminate one .

I might as well state that I already have a 20 inch 6x68 build that I am happy with.
It is just a little to long for a truck gun, and a little short for a more dedicated bench gun.

Either one is good choice. I run a 25/6.8. It has an 18 inch barrel. I usually shoot 70 or 75 grainers for coyotes at 3050 and 90 grain bullets at 2950 or 100 grainers at 2675. It is my go to weapon.. Built by Mike at DTech. the short barrel is sweet!
Just one choice! Greg

I was originally going with the 70 grain NBT in the 6 MM.
But the 85 grain NBT in the 25 cal is the weight I really want to run.
I guess I will just purchase the second barrel and decide witch I like best, maybe
I will keep both.

I shot these all this past week with my 25 DTi and 85gr Nosler's.
Also let another hunter shoot a couple of cull deer with it as well.

If I was looking at the 25x6.8 I would for sure look at the 25 DTI.. I have one as well and it is a 18" barrel. Shoots lights out. I have shot yotes and a couple white tails with it now. Two deer this season with it. Very easy to load for and I like the 25 caliber bullet selection. I also have a 6 WOA and while I love it as well, I tend to always grab the 25 DTI when I head out to hunt. To say its a hammer on the yotes is an understatement. It slams them.

I know DTECH is a sponsor here, but I do not want to fire form for my AR's.
It is not worth the small gain for me. I do plenty for my bolt rifles.
I do appreciate you weighing in on this subject. I am leaning strongly on the purchase of a second barrel in the 25 cal.

I'm trying to justify the gain over the 25x45 or 6x45

Brass is cheaper and easier to get for the 45s I don't want to hunt for spent brass while hunting

How hard to get a bolt carrier group for the bolt face of the 6.8s?

The shorter 6.8 case should allow for a heavier bullet ie longer bullet

Ok so does black hole do complete uppers or just barrels?

nitis, midwayusa has full (not stripped) 6.8 bolts in stock usually for about $78. I got all mine from them.
Take a .223 BCG, pull the bolt head out, swap in the 6.8 head and you are done.
