I know for a fact that they made them in the mid 80's because my shooting buddy had one. Had it topped with a 15X Unertl Ultra Varmint scope he did. Wow, what a shooter it was. I got SO pissed at him when he sold it without offering it to me first. Never forgave him for that.
If I remember correctly I bought a BDL Varmint in 6MM back in 89 probably for $389 NIB, I am stretching my memory a bit but I believe the 700 Varmints at the time I seen the 7-08 were running right around $469 maybe...I am just saying by todays standards the thought of getting a new 700 Varminter for that price sounds crazy to guys who might not have been around then.
Thanks guys, I need an 700 BDL rifle from that era. Believe it or not someone parted a 7mm-o8 Varmint Special for the action and I am getting the barrel and stock. Go figure. I have several Varmint Specials but not going to part none of them. My favorite Rifles. while on the subject of past prices I have a 40X 244 and have the original sales receipt from 1966 and it cost $169. but was special ordered with a optional $17. Hart Stainless barrel and ran price up to $186.

And I remember those days. Back then if you were working for minimum wage that would have taken a months wages to buy.
