77gr smk

Hey guys, a long time lurker (2-3 years) but basically new here. Great info and great people here from what I've gathered! I have the opportunity to get some 77gr smks from my dad to load up, but the only thing I have in .223 is an AR in 18" 1/9. Is this worth my time or can the short barrel in 1/9 simply not stabilize the 77gr pill?

The 1" in 9" may or may not work with those bullets. There is only one way to find out. Load some up and shoot them!

I think you'll be alright. I'm pretty sure the box even says 7"-9" twist only, I shoot a 8" twist and they're great.

I just checked my box and it actually says 7" & 8" twist only, going to just have to give it a shot and see if it's key-holeing.

I run 75gr Hdy BTHP and 77 SMK in my 1:9 Rem 5R just fine. The shoot very well.
