My 788 I got from my friend didn't have a manual. Can someone talk me through how to take the rifle apart? Thanks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

I am taking a chance here and thinking you want to get the bolt out. hold forward pressure on the safety and pull the bolt bback

To take the action from the stock. there are three screws on the bottom of the rifle. the rear screw and the front screw hold the action to the stock. the small center screw holds the metal plate to the bottom of the stock and doesn't have to be removed to take the action from the stock. That is as far as you should go. the trigger can be removed, but is not needed. the barrel should be removed only by a gunsmith

If you want to disassemble the bolt for cleaning!

REAL EASY

With the bolt in and the bolt handle down, insert pin of some sort (I use the back end of a small drill bit) into the hole on the rear, side of the bolt shroud!

The pin should go in from right to left!

With the pin in place, lift up on the bolt handle, push forward on the safety and remove the bolt from the gun!
Now, with the bolt out, unscrew the rear part of the bolt (by hand), no tools required other than the pin!

With the pin in, the spring tension is held in place for easy disassembly!
