7mm-08

Will someone explain to me just what exactly a 7mm-08 is. One of my best friends is having a custom one built on a Remington Stainless action. I have heard that they are real tack drivers. But besides that, I am clueless when it comes to this cal. Thank you.

Burris,
It is a .308 Win. necked down to 7mm. In the right rifle it could be a tack driver. In a so-so rifle no big deal. Depends on the rifle, shooter, and ammo.

Currently its my all around Favorite.

Deer/moose/bear/Antelope/goats an sheep Its my current do-all gun.

It will do everything a .308 will do and some things it wont.

The 7-08 is in the same family (they use the same basic piece of brass at the same nominal length) as .243, 260, 7-08, .308, .358 and dozens of wildcats. Typically chambered in short action guns.....max OAL of around 2.800". Although not necessarily more accurate most cartridges in this family are known for their fine accuracy.

Highly efficient, inherently accurate( gained it's notoriety from the metallic silhouette crowd), low recoiling, and maybe the best all-around whitetail cartridge there is--2MG

The 7mm-08 is very accurate in the right rifle , but i quess you could say that about any round. I have the 7mm-08 in the Tikka and it is very accurate, grouping 1/2 inch at 100 yards with the 140 BT and VARGET , it is one of the better deer round. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

The 7mm-08 is my favorite round for hunting deer and bear here in Pennsylvania. Great accuracy and knock-down power. I usuall shoot the 145 gr speer grandslam bullets. My rifle is a remington model 7, one of the best around in my opinion

I used to have a 7-08 in a Lone Eagle single shot hand gun. Ballistically, I believe it is identical to the 270Win out to about 250 yards or so. I used to when friendly challenges with my buddies that I could hit anything with my pistol they could hit with their rifle. I rarely lost. It is a fine little round. Only ever shot 1 deer with. She was at about 30 yards and the bullet passed through with no expansion. Left a nice blood trail to follow though and I found her about 150 yards away. I sold it last week. Didn't have any complaints with it at all. Just no longer used it as I prefer the 30-30 for the terrain I hunt in here.

The 7mm-08 is my go to rifle for all big game here in Texas. It is also going to africa with me in September for the smaller plains game antelope and jackals. It is a short action, accurate round that is deadly to 250 yards.....farther if you know the rifle.

Calypso, nice pics buddy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I have killed more deer here in Michigan with the 7-08 than any other round. I had a Savage 16fss with a nikon monarch that I sold to my buddy. It was a very accurate rifle. My current 7-08 is a Sako Finnlight with a Zeiss conquest on it. It is even more accurate, to the point I will not tell you the 200yd. group sizes or someone will claim bull***t. I will never be without a 7-08 in my safe--2MG

the 7-08 in essence is a 308 on a diet and way more velocity
and a flatter trajectory a 7-08 muzzle velocity with a 140 grain nosler ballistic tip is about 2860 Fps a 308 with a 165 grain nosler ballistic tip is a lol over 2700Fps the down side is less energy the trajectory is very close till about 200 yrds were the lighter 7-08 pulls away and stays flatter at closer ranges with these ballistic tips its scarey what it does to a dear under 50 yrds i shot 1 with my Encore at about 20 yrds and POOF a hole the size of a freakin bowlin ball apear on the other side the hole shoulder gonei gues it hit the first shoulder bone and exploded out of the other side ive also got a mod 7 in it and its an awsome deer rifle also does good on hogs i killed a hawg bout 350 lbs with it with a 175 yrd shot its the ultimate american game caliber in my opinion
