7mm rem mag or .270wsm? their soo close...

I can't tell the difference in the recoil between the two guns. It could be that the shorter cartridge fools the brain into thinking that it kicks less.

Hmmmmm, I guess that one got by a few of us..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Could be the rifle I suppose. The 7mm Rem Mag in my comparison is a wood stocked Rem 700 BDL shooting 140 Accubonds at 3100 fps. The .270 WSM is a Win Mod 70 Super Shadow (synthetic stock) shooting a 130 gr Speer Hot-Cor at 3200 fps. I still think the lighter Winchester is nicer to the shoulder than the heavier Remmy. My wife's ultralight 7 RM with a muzzle brake seems to kick only slightly less than the .270 WSM.

I have to concede on the BC discussion and the argument regarding the superiority of the 7mm with heavier bullets, but I thought this was about a deer rifle.

Glad I don't have to decide, I have both. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd still pick the WSM based on the original question.

Oh yeah, +1 on the nickel WSM brass being a little difficult.

Since you are stricting killing deer, here's my $.02...

For inside of 400yds, I'd do a 7mm-08 shooting 120gr TSXs. You can get them going 3100fps from a nice light, handy rifle. IMHO, what a deer rifle SHOULD be...

For beyond that, combine the attributes of both your choices and do a 7WSM. That'll get you to 1000yds with a high b.c. 162AMAX or a 168 or 180 VLD...
