A Black One

I called in a black one last night. I had to shoot him through some vegetation which I think slightly deflected the 50 gr. soft point, but it got enough in him to allow a quick follow up. Also another pair of coyotes were in the field about 400 yds. from me and I had increased the magnification from 2.8 to 5.6. When this one showed up out of nowhere and crossed the downwind, I just took the shot I was presented. It wasn't perfect, and video isn't that good, but it resulted in a dead black coyote anyway.

And just like that, you are back on the 'calling board'. Shot sure looked like he should have been planted there Owen.
Congrats on another black one. When I saw that pic last night when I got service you inspired me--kinda wished I hadn't got service, got to bed at 5:20 and never heard a howl (other than what I sent out) or seen a canine working the 9-5 shift :mad:
 
I gotta start hanging out with you DU, 8 is a crazy amount of black coyotes to see let alone kill in one lifetime. Have they all been from the same region?
 
Very nice Owen ! We all know “ one shot one kill “ doesn’t always work on coyotes ! Nice follow up !

I thought I would go back and find some of the black ones I've taken. This double on blacks was one of the more memorable ones. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the second one that night and went back the next afternoon and the eagles and buzzards were already working her over. Actually, it was a triple but the 3rd one was just plain ol' coyote however the shot on it was memorable for me as I killed the 3rd one at 387 yds. with my 243.

This is the first black one, I ever saw. It hit my bait pile, and unfortunately I couldn't find this one after shooting it with a 204. It still troubles me that I lost it even tough I was recovering from a fractured L3 in my back and pretty much hobbled.

I have some others, but will have to search around to find the pics.
 
Black ones are pretty special even here in coastal NC, but I've sort of lost count. Not sure if it is 8 or 9. Haven't had time to look for anymore pictures. I denote every coyote in my Excel spreadsheet so I might be able to check the correct number there.
