A couple more for the stable

Well thinning the herd doesn't seem to be working so I guess I'll go the other way. I went to a local shop for some black powder and round balls and ended up with no black powder supplies but did buy a Marlin Golden 39A. Compared to prices I see at the local gunshows it was well within my budget so I bought it. Took it to the range today and it wouldn't fire. No wonder it was cheap! Called my friend/gunsmith and he said bring it over. About 10 seconds of him looking at it and he said it doesn't fire because it doesn't have a firing pin. Well crap. But.......he said I think I may have one and he did. So its getting fixed and a good going over while he's got it. He recently bought a bunch of really nice rifles from a guy and he wanted me to look at them.BIG MISTAKE on my part. Two Coopers, a Browning 52, a Colt 22 semi auto, Browning T bolt, a 40X 22, and a Rem VSSF in 223 and a couple of shotguns. All look mint and some were never fired. Being the chump I am, I snagged the VSSF. Its a 9.5 on a 10 scale and had a Nikon 6.5-20 Monarch 3 that came with it. Did I need another 223? Well, we all know about need. LOL!!!

I've been trying to down size and it's not working.

Last month I was gifted SIX surplus M16A1 kits minus the original receiver of course and barrel. However, there were three barrels as well including two NOS Colt 20" C MP B marked barrels and one from Green Mountain... so I have three M16A1 clone builds in the works as well as a XM177E2 build using the original Colt parts. Sold one of the kits for a pretty penny, not sure what to do with the last one.

I tried to sell off some Aero M5 stuff recently with no luck so today my Wilson Combat order arrived... I'm building a 18" .338 Federal and a 16" .358 Winchester... just because.

Also included in the parts were enough things to build two other AR's with Wilson Combat parts, LMT, LaRue, Leupold, and Geissele parts... so I'm moving in the wrong direction but it's not costing me much.

Well, so far my good deal has turned sour. The 39A is giving us fits. My gunsmith has got it to fire but not consistently and it doesn't eject spent cases very well either. He's got some new firing pins coming and if they don't fix it I'm not sure whats next. On a good note, I shot the VSSF 223 this morning. With a 50 grain BlitzKing it did pretty dang good. Hotter top end loads groups right around 1/2" but I think I can get them to tighten up a little more with some load work and seating depth changes. I may have to dip into my Bergers but I have 4 other 22 caliber rifles that like them to. I don't know if I can afford to feed 5 rifles the same bullet. LOL

(Did a recount, I have five 22 caliber bolt action rifles. Getting to where I can't keep track these days.)

Well, on a good note, my gunsmith got my 39A up and running. He got a new firing pin, ejector spring and ejector and a cartridge feed spring. He also found a small burr in the chamber and fixed that to. Now it does everything its suppose to do. He charged me $105 to repair the rifle which I thought was more than fair. Nice having a friend that's also a gunsmith.

One more is never enough brother...

I spent waaay too much $ this year on toys. Most recent purchases were a Yugo SKS M59/66 that my friend was selling to help his son out with money. And just ordered a new Tenpoint Crossbow package from Wyvern Creations, my other one is 6yrs old and I have a feeling it’s going to go down at some point during this season, so new bow and it will become my backup. Also sold my Weatherby 350 Legend and upgraded it to a Tikka…plus several other items.
Oh well, it’s just $ and life is short. Might as well enjoy it while I’m still able to.
