I had a land owner tell me he wanted some fish thinning done and my buddy regi was wanting some eating fish! so we broke out his kayaks {I had never fished out of one} and headed for the water! I caught so many I got tired of putting them on the stringer! my thumb got plumb sore! regi caught a few also and 1 decent one! none where very big but they'll fry!

I'm still trying to find a frying pan that'll hold the bucket mouth I yanked from the river last month.

You guys don't have a size limit down there?
We can't be caught with a bass under 14 inches up here.

This hog was 21 inches and weighed in at 6.25 pounds.
Took a 5 inch cray fish out of it's stomach. I shoulda shot a pic of that quick. I'm gonna make it part of the mount. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The size limit is 14 here too and artifical lore only on bass. When I lived in Mass. a friend showed me a spot called Cow pond brook. We went there with a canoe and when he stopped on the side of the road where the brook ran under, it was so sallow I laughted. It was't even 6" deep. "We don't need a canoe we need rubber boots" I says.
Heres John /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif "Trust me"

So we got the canoe in and sat down and bottomed out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif John says "Just hitch us forward with the paddle, it'll get deeper." and it did. The water was crystal clear and got about 5' deep but it was only 8ft wide. The Alder brush hung over like a jungle. I'm laugh'n "How we gonna cast"
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif "You cast foward and I'll cast back."
It was tight!
We huged one side and John got his first cast and nailed a 5 lb bass. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
On my first cast I got a huge pickirel. We were using buzz bates and you could see the fish fighting to get to the lure first. That turned out to be the best day I ever had fishing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

RR, that looks like a spotted bass. If it is you have yourself one hell of a trophy there. They don't often come that big. I catch quite a few in the rivers down here too along with largemouth and the occasional small mouth. And if it is a largemouth that is still a dandy trophy to come from the river that far north. It looks like it never lacked for a meal for sure. Jimmie

No, it's just a largemouth Jimmie. It's the biggest one I've ever caught and i live on that river in the summer.

It's not uncommon to pull 18 and 19 inchers out through the ice though.
I know you boys got some monster bass down there, I need to figure out how to hone in on that someday. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well , if largemouth grow that fast up there I would hate to see a flat head or bluecat from up there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have been thinking of getting away to one of my favorite bluegill holes on one of hte rivers. Quickest way to a fish fry I know. Especially when they come in half pound size and up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif I may even add a couple of blues to the catch there while I'm at it. Dandy spot where the current makes an eddy and collects every thing in one spot most of the time to feed.

If you get thet itch to come down here make it during may. I can show you a cat hole you wouldn't believe during the spawn. Bass fishing in that bay isn't bad either at that time. Just after post spawn and they hit the ledges along the creek channel to feed up before hitting the points and main river ledges.Jimmie

I appreciate the gesture Jimmie.
If I ever make it down that way, your door will be the first one I knock on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Glenn, I keep tellin' ya-I've got a KILLER place to fish.. The fish I catch out of these ponds would EAT those that you and Regi caught. LET'S GO!! It's not that far of a drive for either of us!!
