We called this coyote in tonight, took 45 minutes, we were looking for a cat. Used low volume on foxpro rabbit and rodent in distress.

That's not a coyote, you shot a wolf and gave him a blonde make over! Great job... let's hear the rundown! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

let me guess 243 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
how many lb. got to be better then 45lb.
wow thats a nice dog /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

it was a 243...down right away....we're hunting thicker spots now...getting better all the time....like conk and brian say it's the set up more then anything..the fox pro we now keep at a real low volume...turns out lots of coyotes crossed 16 while we called(we could see that in the snow when we left)....we were on the north side of 16 not far out of rangeley...we should have just stayed still after the shot but being newbes we got right up to get the kill...the dog was about 55 pounds...a male....i'm just now setting up new lights...airplane spotlights for night hunting....we got this one at 5:00 today...after work got into our site at 4:10...thats what i like about living in the sticks a mile out of town and your ready to go!!!.....billy

Nice Coyote, I think you shot the 1 I seen, Way to go.

Beautiful coyote guys! I knew at first glance he weighed over 50 lbs.. Bill Martz told me several times that there have been coyotes killed in the Maine area that weighed in the 70 lb. range. Any knowledge on that? It just doesn't get cold enough here in Ky. to get that kind of prime coat. I can remember only one winter in 8 that has produced any quality fur.

Holy cr*p!!! That thing is huge. Nice catch. See you fella's got a little snow on the ground. Can you send 2 inches (only 2) down this way?

Hey Possumal, will be hunting this weekend using some of the tips you gave me. Will keep you posted.

Good hunting,
Perri

one thing for sure...we looked at the tracks carefully right after we shot it...and lots of tracks we see are much bigger then this ones tracks....it's hard to find people that hunt coyotes ...a trapper i talked to said he trapped a female 55pounds and he said he's seen them that were 80+.he says average is 35....i don't know but i think the one we got was a large for up here..not an extra large...billy

Well I'll tell ya,Ive had'em pop jaws on brand new montgomery #2's!Makes ya think,If ya really want to do it alone or not and how big they really get,Ive seen some big coyotes that lloyd niles shot and they do get big,biggest I ever saw was a female that he shot and it was pushing 70lb on certified scales

from what i've heard you want to keep that trap away from the dirt hole with scent only in the dirt hole and no scent where the traps are set where you think that dog will come in...anyway.....trapping does help hunting...but we are still learning....i really want to get a big one...over 60 pounds....we will see...it could take years..the good thing is they are up here..but so are big fish....billy

You talk to 10 different people and you'll get 10 different reasoning of why this works,Its a learning curve thats for sure,what works one time wont work all the time you have to be adaptable to the situation at hand and know how to change.Just like fishing What works today may not work at all tomorrow or may work even better! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well they say it might snow here tonight. It's turning colder, but I'm betting just rain. I put in a couple of sets like we talked about [I think]and will keep you posted.
