A Savage Axis Really?

A $500 scope on a $280 rifle defeats the truck gun scenario, IMO, but to each his own.

I have an Axis in .223 with a Coyote special so I have very little room to talk

. This set up, with my handloads, is submoa consistently.

I just received an Axis in .308 for Christmas and have yet to take it to the range, but based on my buddy's experience with the first version, labeled "Edge" I suspect mine will be a shooter too.

I bought a Savage Axis XP Camo .223 with the scope package (Bushnell 3x9x40mm) and its a great shooting rifle, the scope is decent and I was amazed at how well is performed!

I'm using 55 grain Hornady V-max bullets and sighted it in out to 100 yards with my Caldwell Leadsled.Got mine on sale for $335.00 + tax so it totaled up to around $369.00 not bad for a complete Rifle bore-sighted and ready to go to the Shooting Range right out of the box!

Got 2 other Friends that bought Savage Axis, one in the Camo .243 caliber with the scope package and the other in the Black synthetic .223 no scope! Both are very satisfied with their purchases!

The other Rifle comparable to Quality and price that I would also consider buying would be the new Ruger American Rifle, read lots of good things about the quality of how it's made, the adjustable trigger and accuracy of the Ruger American!

I purchased the same for my son, camo stock axis in.243 with scope. We sighted it in and right out of the box it was plugging sub 1 inch holes @100 yards without nary a hiccup. After dialing it in we were printing @ 2 inches above the bull about the size of a .50 cents piece. My neighbor was so impressed he is planning to purchase one as well.

I'm thinking of another possibly in 22-250, although I was offered a Rem 778 in .243 for an attractive price.

How do the Savage/Stevens models fare? The LGS has a 22-250 in stock and I was looking pretty hard. They have the accutrigger too, right.

I have one in 22-250, camo with cheapo Bushnell that came on it. Shoots sub MOA with factory loads all day long. It really likes those cheap Winchester's in the white box.

The Trophy Hunter XP with accu trigger and Nikon BDC scope package deal for 449$ before taxes and ect.
I got 2 THP XP 204 and 22-250. They both shoot excellent with reloads. But the 22-250 sits at home alot and the 204 on most days travels with me.

No need for a trigger and boyd stocks if you desire but the syntehtic is very good. I saw a review where a stock xs7 in 25-06 shot a .2 group with factory rounds.

Isn't the XS7 a short action?

I shoot the axis 223. Got it a year ago at Walmart $225+ tax. Can't beat it. Put a bushnell trophy scope on it. Total setup $400. If you concentrate on zeroing in with consistent hand loads and add a nice bipod you can drop whatever at 300 yards. I'll use it for 3-4 years and buy something else.
Hunting to me is trying to do it as economical as possible IMHO. Don't pass it. I'd discourage you buy the one that comes with the scope. You won't like it and will end up buying something else. Save your $ and get it solo.

What's also cool about the price is you can do a spray on camo job and not worry about perfection.
With this being said, the ruger American wasn't available at the time. That's what I'd get now in the 22-250 or 243 that just came on the market

I've got 2 of them, both are excellent and consistantly shoot 3 shots under an inch at 100yds with all ammo tried! Have taken several vermin with the .223 and got a nice buck with the .30-06 last fall.

I bought both without optics and added a rock solid, one piece DNZ scope mount. Highly recommend them.

My Son & Grandson.? Just bought the Axis in the win 270 for Deer hunting nice Rifle./ But I wish that they still made their Model 200 Savage/Stevens.? I bought one in the Win 243 Cal.? Love this rifle.?Shame they discontinued a Great affordable rifle like the 200.?

The *Newer Savage Axis II come with the Accu-Trigger...for those that want a lighter adjustable trigger this is the route to go for just a few dollars more.

My Axis .223 is still putting the hammer down on the Coyotes!

The axis does have a factory replacement stock option. It's from Boyd's. I suppose you could put a accutrigger in if you wanted but with the ability to put a SHarp shooter supply trigger why? I don't care for the accu trigger much anymore. I'd rather have the old factory 3screw and work it down.

I have 2 savage axis rifles. A 243 and a 223. Both are excellent shooters. They have been primarily been used for prairie dog hunting. I put a leupold 3x9 on the 223. I have 4 other 223's in my gunsafe.... I have to admit that the axis is my favorite. I shoot a 40 grain v-max with benchmark powder. I have one hunting buddy that still shakes his head when I make some prairie dog kills..... He just can't believe that this rifle can still shoot this well. We have both GUESSED 6 to 7 thousand rounds down the tube.

I had a tack driving axis 223, sold it. Was my main coyote gun. Sold it out of pride, being they are cheap guns. Bought something more expensive, semi auto....not quite a tack driver. Now im considering another axis or bolt gun. They make a good product in anyones price range
