A tale of 3 bullets........................

The 22cal 70gr. TSX are penetrating killers. This coyote took one in the chest at 187 yds. Came out the rear end. Never recovered them from any critter. 22-243AI 3700fps.

Thanks guys I am with ya I use my AR on deer a lot I am using a 65 gr gameking with 24.5 GRS of benchmark out of a Sig 20 inch bull barrel and it is a 1@8 so should handle the 70 gr fine. Thanks again.

Nice. Good god but that's a large entrance hole. When you hit bone the damage is greater than most bullets IME. When you avoid bone, little pelt damage compared to most bullets IME.

Anybody who thinks they are inadequate in any way for any sized deer is either a fool, or simply hasn't done it.....

Been shooting the 62gr TSX for a while and they just flatten deer...or yotes for that matter. 223/TSX combo is so easy, my kids can do it. But then again, they can shoot.

Never recovered any TSX myself.

223AI 8 twist 22" H335 62gr TSX = 3284fps

Dead deer, dead pigs, dead coyotes, dead bobcats and all with minimal pelt damage , but extremaly DEAD !

I've never had problems killing deer with a 223 with any bullet. I've prolly killed more deer with a 55gr vmax than a LOT of people have killed with all rifles combined. Of course, I make it a habbit not to shoot deer dead in the azz either...

TSX works well but so do a lot of other bullets... If you make a good shot it helps none in the least. If you make a bad shot, it does give more penetration on average.

I have killed a few deer before with 7mm and TSX & found the pedals in the deer when skinning. At euber velocity they can (tear the pedals off &) act like a FMJ.

So glad you don't let a good rant go to waste, 2MG....

And, you know what? I believe every word of it. I just bought a box of 130 grain TTSX's for my brother's .308. A small case can really take advantage of the lighter premium bullets. I believe that the 130 grain TTSX will do everything a 180 grain of conventional construction would do but with much higher velocity. The idea that you have to use increasing bullet weight to get increasing penetration and bone breakage just doesn't hold water any more.

I'll give you that much... It is better than FMJ.

I'm in no way saying that the TSX isn't a great deer hunting bullet. By all means it is... It does give you a penetrating advantage if you need to shoot lengthways or real bad angles or LARGE critters. However, I've shot a bunch with them all. We have a beyond generous bag limit here in NC (unlimited does) that I tend to take advantage of. On average with good shots, the cup & core stop deer faster. If four pedals do a "lot of damge", imagine what hunderds of shards & pellets do. Still, there will be a dead deer at the end of a trail with barnes (it even knocks em down if you find much bone). Not denying that.

Agreed. I have never had any bullet I've shot at a deer not kill it. And premium bullets usually not needed, JSPs do very well.

As for faster kills than the TSX, hard to say. I really don't notice one to kill faster than the other. They both work well.

What I do like of the TSXs though, is I can use lighter weight, increasing velocity/drop, and still kill them just as reliably if not better than a heavier bullet of "lesser" construction. And they seem to do very little pelt damage, if it matters.

I kinda like the tougher bullet in the smaller calibers. Is it always needed? Probably not. Is it better than a 55gr softpoint for imperfect shot angles? Absolutely, IMO. I have a bunch of Winny 64gr PowerPoints that I will not hesitate to shoot at deer, if my TSX supply ever gets low.....
