I had one of my better days out hunting yesterday, I don't kill the numbers that many of you do.
As I left the truck on the bike it was 9*F which was not as bad as it could have been but I had no wind really to speak of.
The first stand I was about 1 mile from the truck, dropped the bike and walked to a slight rise out in the middle of some wide open country.
After 25 min, I decided to get moving to the next stand, as I started to get up and scanned behind me I see this female coming in the back door at about 125 yards.
At the shot she flopped, then up and ran 50 yards or so before piling up.
As I was gathering my stuff I had a couple of coyotes start howling off in the distance. So I rode on down the road a couple of miles and moved towards those from another angle. I had moved to the edge of a tree line, looking out over some open country to my downwind side. About 2 min. in I have two dogs coming in hard from my downwind side and they hold up about 125 yards out again. I lined up on the first and got a bang flop. I couldn't get on the second quick enough, but the foxbang brought her right back a minute later, another bang flop at 150 yards ! At that point I realized I had just made my first double after trying for close to 40 years ! woohoo ! I have called many doubles before, but it seems like I always blunder and at least one of them gets away from me.
Usually when I have a pair coming in, I think it is a male / female. But on this occasion it was a pair of sisters, go figure!
