Hi guys:
I was wondering why I never hear any of you guys mention AA 2230 in the .223 Rem. I have loaded for many years now and found AA powders to be very accurate in all the Cal. I load for, .22,.25,.28,.30,ect. But the 2230 is down right scary accurate at 25gr under a 50gr V-max in my rifle. It is also easy to get and priced right! Am I missing something ? Mark

You're right no one ever talks about AA2230, I don't understand why.. We load AA2230 for all of our .223's. 25 grains with a 55 gr ballistic tip. We've got a 24" rock river varmint that will hang around .2" with it. All of our AR's love AA2230..

AA 2230 is supposed to have been designed for the 223. I have tried it in at least a half dozen different 223s with dismal results every time.
If it works for you, great. It has been about the worst 223 powder in my limited experience. I keep trying because it is supposed to be good in 223, but so far not.

MNShooter,

I use 27.2 gr. of AA2230, and a 40gr. Sierra H.P.
It gives me 3/8 3 shots groups at 100 yds. Great
powder. Load is right out of Sierra loading
manual.

Have fun finding right load,

It works well for me also. When I was breaking in my Dtech I used it and some Graf 55 grain FMJ and got MOA and better with thrown charges.

I am having the same problem and kind of put in on the backburner for now. I will keep trying to find a good load with it but for what I have done to this point it doesn't outshoot some other powders out of my rig.

Jack, 2230 powder can vary a whole bunch from lot to lot. Some time back I was shooting a real good 2230 load in the MachIV. Then years later that same load became way overpressure and blew primer pockets. And in a 6BR, accuracy was good but never at the same velocity or over the same load spread. I had powder with 3 different lot #'s from about a 12yr span and none of it shot the same. It almost drove me nuts before figuring out what was happening. Mixing together what was left of all 3 made about a pound that worked fine. And a keg solved the problem for a much longer time, at least until it's used up. There are plenty of other good .223 powders anyway and 2015 has been just excellent. In a MIV, 2230 is very fast and accurate with 25gr bullets. And in the 6BR, 2230 is absolute magic with lighter bullets....65's are the heaviest I've used in that cartridge.
