Acrylic Calls???

I think the acrylic have a richer tone, but am not for sure that it is all tone board or bell. I am starting to like the delrin tone board with the acrylic bell. I still think the distinct difference in sound is enough to keep spinnin them out and trying them.

Not for sure how Crapshoot's idea would work on green.

Somebody above hit the nail as the call maker tunes to his own sound/ear, what always amazed me, and what really trips the trigger is listening to somebody else really play one that you made.

I know this is a little off subject, but Al what are you using to polish the acrylic that takes that long? Have you tried wet sanding the acrylic and polishing with Brasso on a cotton rag? I've been using it for 10 years on acrylic duck calls and it works better than anything else I've ever tried. About 15 mins. of wet sanding and polishing and it's clear as glass inside and out. I also turn my barrels on a hardened steel mandrel which allows me to sand and polish the outside and the ends at the same time. It will get kinda messy and you will have to keep your lathe clean and oiled to prevent rust. I lay a towel across the bed and it helps with the mess. I also have a second headstock set up just for sanding and polishing the inside. Just a little added info. Good luck if you want to try it.

Custom Caller,

Sanding the outside is not a problem. It goes pretty fast.

Sanding the inside of the barrels is another thing LOL. I can get them very nice and clear. but when I hold them up to the light I sometimes see small scratches in them. I don't like that. I have heard of people using brasso but I have not tried it yet.

Brasso and I go way way way way back - and it brings back some very very very nasty flash backs.

I'll give the brasso a try.

Thanks for the tip.

I am working on tumbling acrylic call the same way they do acrylic lenses. So far I am getting fair results. They need a little clean up afterwards, but when you do 2 or 3 dozen at a time, it is a lot easier to just chuck them in the tumbler and go do something else in the shop,
