ADL barrels vs BDL barrels

I had an interesting back and forth last night on a private Rem 700 FB group. A fella put out the following information that made me go WTH? He wrote the following, Quote:ADL Barrels are seconds and they bend them. Steel has a memory as it heats up it walk back. This is why they don't shoot tight groups. BDL are Barrels that passed and are not bent!

Needless to say he would not provide any source on where he got this information. His only answer was talk to a well know gunsmith and they will confirm.

Has anyone here heard of this claim before. It's news to me.
 
I've been under the assumption that the difference between the ADL and BDL was the blind magazine vs hinged floor plate. But alas it must be true if it's on FB too.
 
Just checked on Remington's website and it says the difference is the blind magazine. They also say they use "similar" actions. Not sure if that means tolerances are a little less on the ADL too.

Either way, it says the ADL was discontinued in 2005... but yet I've seen some around lately. Weird
 
Funny I pointed that out too almost to the word. Apparently they will do special runs of ADL for places like Walmart, etc.

Actually I was referring to the post I did on FB in reply to the fella. I said same thing you did with the Remington link. He implied Remington would not admit it. Needless to say the discussion became pointless.
 
Yep. A few other chimed in and pointed out their sub MOA groups. It was painful to watch but I figured I put this out and ask if anyone had information such as this. I had never heard of it.
 
I have scoped many Remington barrels in the last 15 years... internally there is zero difference in either the BDL's or the ADL's. It is however, "luck of the draw" as to whether or not you are lucky enough to get one that looks and shoots good. I would say it has been this way for a long time with Remington...I have made it a point to scope every older one I get in my shop just to see what the bore looks like. I honestly see about the same tooling marks and the same number of good vs. bad shooters in both the older ones as well as current production. Ammo as well as other considerations must be taken into account for sure, but overall it's still a toss up as to whether or not you get one that shoots lights out.
 
The barrel quality differences just put a grin on my face. The most asinine comment I've read in months and that includes all the political BS.

I thought they had special machines that all the crooked barrels for ADL's and Wal-Mart rifles went on and special machines for all the straight barrels for BDL and gun shop rifles. Now you tell me they don't??

Everyone knows that BDL barrels are drilled with a round hole and then they are rifled.

ADL barrels are drilled with a special machine tool that drills a hole that is a miniature version of an NFL football in profile and then its rifled.

Sheesh. This isn't rocket surgery.
 
I'd be surprised if the QC was enough that they inspected all these barrels to the point that they even put them in separate piles. My guess is they pass whatever inspection process they do, which probably isn't much, and they get put in the go or no go pile.

Now, if the discussion was about the ADL barrels that are produced get less care or have lower QC standards than the BDL barrels, I could, maybe, be more inclined to believe that but even that would be doubtful. My thoughts on store bought guns is it is purely luck of the draw if you get one with a good barrel or not.
 
I have no clue how Remington "puts a rifle together", but bet they have no clue whether it's going to be an ADL or a BDL before it's finally assembled and sold.
 
And the best thing of all is if there not straight enough for the ADL they ship them to Savage so you can just screw them on and make them point in what ever direction you want them to..

OUCH! Thats gonna leave a mark! reddog you know that ain't true. They use old sewer pipe for Savage barrels.
