Aftermarket Stock For 700 Remington ?

I'm thinking about replacing the stock on my Remington 700 BDL. It's a .17 Remington and I use it for a calling rifle. I'm not sure if I want to paint my stock or replace it with a camo stock. What stocks have you guys used and what are your likes and dislikes. Any advice will help. Thanks...
 
Just about every aftermarket stock maker makes a 700 stock. There are hundreds upon hundreds of options out there. There are some crazy ones out there as well, and just like anything, you can spend as much money as you want to. There are three big ones that come to mind, and one of them has already been mentioned.

Bell and Carlson

McMillian

H&S Precision

I've heard to stay away from Boyd's due to needing a bunch of work on them to fit the action and bed the barrel....just FYI. I was gonna buy one last year and everybody talked me out of it.

H-S is the go to stock, but be prepared to drop $300+ for a good one.
 
I have a HS precision stock on a .25-06 Rem BDL. Boy, it is nice. I liked it so much I bought a HS Precision .22-250 VLS rifle.
I have had very good experiences with this company. I have no problem recommending them.

My buddy and I have four Boyd's stocks between us, three laminates and one walnut and they all were perfect out of the box and required no fitting at all. We floated and glassed them but they were fine out of the box if you didn't want to do the float and glass job. They were all bought within the last year. You can sometimes pick up a factory second from them on the cheap that only has a nick in it or some minor flaw. The downside is that the laminates are a little heavier and if you want them lighter you have to take some wood out of the butt to lighten them. I don't really like the feel of synthetics so that is why I have the Boyds. You can get them for under $100 if you watch their site.

For Traditional style stocks, NOBODY beats McMillan, nobody.

The quality is unsurpassed, but you'll end up waiting 6 to 9 months for it. They can inlet it for ANY action type.

My personal favorite is the A-5. Very comfortable stock, if I could afford it, every rifle in my safe would be sitting in an A-5.

I also own 3 HS Precision stocks, which are also nice. My only complaint would be the sling studs have come loose in two of them, very agrivating. One is a bit heavier than the other two, but the palm swell is a bit hard to get use to. Perhaps a bit small for me.

Somebody mentioned Bell & Carlson stocks, not a bad stock, but not up to the quality of HS Precision, and shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentance as McMillan.
I have one, and the barrel inletting is "off" on one side.

Stuff that maybe most folks wouldn't even notice....

Just my opinion, Quality is EXPENSIVE.
