AGS Annealer

After all these years I finally broke down and bought one.........from a friend. We were talking and I mentioned the AGS and I thought the prices went up a little. He said he had two and only used one of them and he would sell me the extra if I wanted it. I was "all in" for this as I was one of those guys that sat in the garage with a torch and a drill spinning cases. I think this unit was built for people like me, super simple. A speed control and on and off switch. I haven't used it yet as I need to get a couple of bottles of propane. Can't wait to try it out.

A guy I know has a nice annealer and every once in a while I would use his. I would just bring a bottle of propane. The worse part of that was he's got to be the biggest liar and having to set there and listen to his BS would drive you crazy. That's when I just did it with a torch and socket. Took forever but peaceful.

I broke down last year and got a burstfire. It’s kinda hypnotic watching it work.šŸ™‚ Curious, am I the only one who gets a little disappointed when the brass doesn’t get that cool looking discoloration at the top? Alpha looks great after annealing. Hornady? You can’t even see a difference.😁

With the AMP unit you can sacrifice a piece of brass (if all are from the same lot) and it will burn a hole through it and use that info to calculate ideal heat times for that specific lot.

A dot of tempilaq will take the guesswork out of it for you. With the burstfire, everything I’ve cooked from 7 PRC to 22-250 has taken right around 4-5 seconds in the flame. Alpha and most of the NATO brass gets a nice color change right around 700°F but Hornady never shows much discoloration all the way up to 800.

The AMP annealer has pilots for the 32-20 and the 22 Hornet. But the Ugly annealer did not have the holder for the 32-20 last time I checked. Haaaa those Giraffe neck cartridges sure not as popular as they once were.
I would like to anneal the cases to help in the life and accuracy department. Bad for me is, I know all my brass is not the same lot number. Good thing all the same brand and started life new with me. No hand me downs or range trash.
Any suggestions?

I got me an AGS annealer around Thanksgiving. I just got a piece of junk brass and played with the speed until I got it to where the mouth of the case started to glow orange before it spun the turn table and moved a fresh piece of brass forward.
