Airgun HogHunt in Oklahoma a Success

Had a BLAST with three other hunters going after wild hogs with out .45 airguns at The Shiloh Ranch in Oklahoma this past week.

We all took our hogs DRT with one-shot. Jim shot his in the head again just to be sure, as it's foot was still twitchin' a little by the time he had re-loaded LOL!

Starting with mine, the smallest taken on the hunt. About an 80pound boar I'm guessing. Shot him with a 228grain SWC slug at about 15-20 yards and he literally could not have gone down any faster than he did.

The largest taken was a 140pound sow. The other two were a 95lb sow, and 100pound boar respectively!

It was great meeting other bigbore airgunners from across the country and getting the opportunity to hunt wild hogs with our .45 airguns!

Jim killed a white fallow doe as well.

About how fast is the bullet going? Too, what's the diameter?(451 0r 458) Can you throw a heavier bullet?
Can't recall for sure the caliber of the ones Lewis and Clark carried but I want to say 70 something. Kinda interesting stuff.

My rifle was the least-powerful of those used on this hunt, shooting a 226grainer SWC@700fps.

The .457 DAQ threw 400grainers at a bit over 700fps and really blasted thru that 100lb boar's head!

How loud are these air rifles. I can shoot within a 100 yards of homes and dwellings along with night hunting in our state. I just dont want to alarm everyone in the neighborhood when fur is down. What is the max distance you would recommend for a coyote sized animal. How about deer? I would assume 50 to 75 yards? I am torn between the Drayon Slayer and the 909s 45 cal. Which one is better and flatter shooting? There is only a $50 difference between the 2 and I like them both.

I HIGHLY recommend the double-tubed 909 over the single-tubed 909s and the DragonSlayer, which is a .495, has less potential for power, and is tough to find good ammo for. Maybe that will change soon, as there are people working hard on tuning the DS's. I will say the DS's are very well known for their accuracy. I know the 909 is capable of moa shooting in the right hands.

The single-tube 909s will give you a little bit more power on the first shot, but not enough for a deer to tell the difference, and subsequent shots will hit lower. The double-tubed 909 is much more efficient with it's additional air capacity, and can shoot four or five shots on the same point of aim at 50yards. That is, if you send it to BGMF Airguns for a power-tune. My favorite gun ever!

These air rifles are kinda funny in the noise department. If you are in thick cover, or down into a canal where the noise can echo, they seem louder (around .22LR loud) but when shot in a more open area they are surprisingly quiet.

Here is a demo video of mine shooting a 255grain slug@650fps. Note the light recoil.

Do they still make the double tubed versions and how much dose it cost to get them power tuned. What is done to it anyways? Is there a cheaper version of the hand pump available? It has a listing of around 250 bucks for what looks like a bike pump.

Yes they still make the two tube version. Pyramidair markets it as the 909 "Light Hunter". I think the power tune is around $250 but I'm not certain. The hand pumps are spendy but well worth it and pump up to 3500psi so it's more like a bike pump on steroids.

You can always get a carbon fiber tank that holds a bunch of air for around $500.
