AK= lots of fun, reliable and cheap to shoot. Accuracy is left with alot to be desired however. Buy one, love it.. Find a better firearm for hunting. IMO
I dont know about hunting with it, but I shot one the other day and it was pretty acurate! Mabye a 100 yards with coyote opensides you could do but that would probably be about it!
I used an AK for 1yr on coyote. At the time, the only local ammo I found were FMJ = not good[pass through's, little trauma]. I managed to get a few. Also used an SKS for a yr, same thing.
Neither rifle were very accurate. But fun to shoot, never jammed.
You hit the nail on the head. AR's are popular here because they shoot well. At least for me I am a hunter first and a shooter second so accuracy is paramount. I am sure that if you do a bunch of custom work to an AK you can make a decent gun to hunt with. I don't believe though that you could ever make an AK a prarie dog long range gun though.
I hunt with a AKnut,he uses it for just about everything, hogs, deer, yotes,he does handload though, that ak74 is a pretty accurate little commie rifle, that round yaws pretty darn good, really suprised me....
