I went out calling in Willow area this weekend. The first set of the year and the foxpro called in a red fox. He came running through some heavy alders down below me around the edge of a beaver pond. At about 100 yards he was standing broadside so I took a shot with the 17hmr and I just plain missed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gifThe fox went running off slow so I continued to call just hoping he would come back. But after about 20 more minutes I gave up and went back to the car and was driving off and as I looked, guess who was sitting back out on the beaver pond! So I got out and took another shot, but he stood up and turned as I shot, so I hit him back a ways. And to make a long story short it was nearly impossible to track him because of the lack of blood, and it had been so warm that the snow had a layer of ice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Somewhat of a bad start, but hopefully I can redeam myself! Anyone else having much luck shooting anything up here?
 
Squat up here in Fairbanks. Only been out in the evenings after work for a couple hours at night. Basically I'm trying to find new areas to hunt in the dark...sounds like fun huh???lol.. So whenever I get a Sunday to go out, I'm going to do more searching. Had some wolves howl back, but didn't close the gap and hunt them down.
 
i tryed calling the other day in the rain and just wasent happening. pray for some cold weather w/snow guys. just got laid off so i got alot more time to play . also hoping for santa to leave me a new .223 under the tree.heading south 4 christmas i think ill try swanson river. had one come in last year but dident get em close enough maybe this time
 
I have been hitting it hard for the past two weeks down here in the Kenai area. I have gone up as far as Moose Pass area where I had wolves answer back at me. I have only been able to call in two coyotes since I have started in early December. I have been using the Fox Pro.

We should have our own little Alaska get together for hunting predators up in the last frontier. I am game for driving up North towards the rest of you guys for a hunt.

hey desertdog im game to go hunt just about any time . just got a new cz .204 for christmas and looking for some fur to break it in on .also got a light force 170 for night hunting tried it a few times no luck yet but it might change tonight /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I took the 4 wheeler out the other day. Took quite a while to get away from the pleasure riders. Called in one coyote but holed up at 300 yards and wouldn't come any closer. He answered to the rodent squeak, bailed on me and came back to a coyote/fox fight sound. Just couldn't get him any closer. THe red dot on my holosight was just bigger than his head at that range.

I'll probably head out later this week, try to get them when traffic is less.
 
At higher volumes, the Fox Pro blows the Western Rivers call away. I'm gonna ebay my WR and go the foxpro route...

Must say, the WR has been durable, and pretty weatherproof. The remote also works well from a distance.

If on a budget, the WR isn't a bad call. If you have the $ though, go with the foxpro.
 
Hi my counis she just move back from Alaska she was about a 200 mil. northeast of Fairbanks. She live out in the woods . She said it was 78 ml. to the closest town and it was a store with the post office inside of it i think she said i will ask her what town it was.She send me pic.s of animals all the time. Man i would love to live up there. But she said work was hard to find. It is good to get to talk to some people that lives ina places as pretty country i have seen. I think it would be great if we could get an Alaskan meeting together with a bunch of fellas/gals. I'd be more than happy to try and set up a meeting sometime. I'm in Fairbanks, so I'm pretty much centered and will try to hook up wherever a group decides on. I work 6 days a week, but can manage Saturday's off if I know I need one. I'd be more than happy to bring all of my callers and gear so that I can get opinions and advice. It would also be handy to show everybody all of the e-callers and hear opinions on sounds, etc. So everybody chime in if they want to set something up.
 
Im game for whatever /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif, whenever. sounds like a good idea.just post me something when you get it more narrowed down.

No wonder I couldn't get anything to come inaround the Flats area. It's already been called out....lol
I live between Sterling and Soldotna. I work a 3 & 3 schedule if anyone wants to get together. I'll be home March 1st.
