All around pistol for the woods?

Where are all the .454, .460, .500, .410 Judge. Maybe they got traded off.

A .22, .357 & .44 have been my choices depending on the outing. The .32 sounds good too.

well Around here in the woods I carry my Ruger MKIII it is accurate and fun to shoot and if a 2 legged attacker is coming after me I am sure 10 rounds or 22 lr ammo will slow em down.
and for bears the noise alone will prolly be enough but if not i know I can keep the rounds on target
I like to practice with this at moving targets
i like to roll balls across the yard and shoot it on the move
great practice

I am a firm believer in K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple stupid) In a high stress situatiion we all tend to get stupid. There is nothing simpler than a double action revolver.

357 or 44 depending on what you expect to encounter and your recoil tolerance.

BIG +1

if you wanted a faster reload get one of the S&W revolvers that take full moon clips. I think some Taurus models use them also, with a little practice reloads can be fast.

I carry my XDM 40 everywhere. Figure if I cant get it down with 17 shots its time to go home.

For hunting Lone Eagle 30-06 or XP100 in 284. I usually take the eagle. Shoot it once nothing can hear anything for a hour. So you sneak up on them.

If I'm not mistaken, the moon clips are for rimless cases like the 45ACP which some of the old M10's were chambered for.

You might want to look into "speed loaders" instead.

actually I believe the pro series and maybe the M&P series are offered with moon clip ready .38 and .357, best to check the website

Huh?
Looks like they do indeed make a full moon clip for a M940. (what ever that is) Says 38/357 5shot, but I can't find a schematic of how it functions.
The moon clips pictured on their web site for the rimless cases are spring steel that snap around the case like the old ones I've seen. The one pictured for the rimmed 38/357 looks like the cartridge slides down on top of the clip, so I'm curious how that works.
Seems to me that the cylinder would have to be machined deeper to accommodate the clip and therefore you'd always have to use the clip? But like I said, "I can't find a schematic" so I'm just guessing.
If that's the case it would be a deal breaker for me, but since I'm not a handgun guy, I'm sure S&W won't loose any sleep over that revelation. LOL

Interesting though.
What's old is new again eah?

even a good speedload will work good for a wheelgun, doesn't have to be mood clips. I have a S&W airweight that stays in my car door. speedloader with it. I can shoot 5 shots from it, and reload faster than most can empty a full clip from an auto. Key to reloading a revolver, with moon clips or a speedloader, practice!

There are speed loaders that dump the cartridges on contact with the cylinder. You don't have to twist the knob like the old ones, like has been said, with practice you can load fast.I shot IDPA with my revolver a few times,I'm pretty slow compared to the fellows that are serious but anyone can speed up their revolver shooting with practice.

yep you can shoot them just fine without the moon clips, or at least thats what ive been reading. again if youd want one a call wouldnt be a bad idea to make sure.

also the sp101 is now made in a 8 shot .22lr. speaking of rugers

I know the 686 (38 and 357) and 625 (45 acp) take them, also I believe the .327 revolver takes them,
here's the brownells listing the clips

Something I never thought I'd see typed on a gun/hunting forum!

Frozenbutt posted a while back about how he carries a 1911 with him in the woods in case a coyote jumps him from behind.... Maybe I should ask him lol

I own several handguns both revolver and semiauto but my favorite handgun for the woods and carry in my truck and just plinking is a ruger new vaquero in 45 lc with 4 5/8 in barrel. Its light weight and not as loud any of my magnums so I shoot it alot more and it has all the power you should need for anything short af a bear. Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

There wouldn't be much bunny left!!!

Exactly. Makes it harder for the bunny DA to prosecute if they can't find a body.

Icarried 44mag for years while hunting. Moving/moved to 1911 in 460rowland for that purpose. Keep toying with a g20 idea though. Worst failure I've had with a semi I could clear in 2 seconds. Only failure I've had with a wheelgun took a few days. I've got way too many rounds through a semi to think of being concerned with it failing.
