Its another rumor.I have seen posts at other websites that show thats it not the case at all.

Do you have links? Apparently , the NRA is aware of a problem:

Eric rattled off all the DOD agencies invlolved and apparently this may have been "somewhat of a mistake" The ranking DOD agency has heard our concerns and condsiders them VALID!!"

Also google "Thane Grooms" he is obviously a valid source.
His emails to GovernmentLiquidationsLLC seem to confirm this "rumor", because all surplus brass goes through GL.

Not so... I remember when Clinton signed the order - it made the local newspaper.

This is one example given. It seems that most seem to think it was meant for brass out of the US. Who knows?

You may want to look at the emails in the first post of the thread I linked to. The example you have given is the exact lot that the OP specifically asked about. It appears that GL has not had time to update their listings, however in reference to your example above, they say it must be scrapped.

"Dear Thane,

Thank you for your e-mail. The recently implemented mutilation requirement applies to all current and future auctions that contain fired shell casings.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Military brass is being melted down. Also, once fired magazines are also being crushed. They are destroying certain sizes of ammo cans also.

Call me dumb
But that brass would be worth more then the scrap $ that they will get, glad the goverment likes to waste money

Clinton stopped all sales of surplus ammo to the public. It looks like this is a continuation of that policy. BTW Clintons ban on public sales was reversed by Geo W. Looks like the liberals with Bammys support are resurecting it. Thing will get worse before they get better.

That is correct. I fear that obama's tentacles are behind this and that this may be the tightening of a noose around ammo supply. Of course, it may be just me. I'm awfully paranoid these days. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, I think that it was homeland security. They stopped the sale of Military BDU's also. Bad guys were buying them off of ebay and ambushing our troops.

This appears to be the "real" deal!

People need to contact your elected representatives! Do it!

My petition:

Dear Senator Inhofe,
Let me prefix this message by thanking you for your service to this state and country. I sincerely look upon you as a patriot and an ally, especially during these trying times.
It has come to my attention that a directive within the DOD has come down, calling for the "demilling" of all surplus brass casings (i.e. spent ammunition). I do not know the originating authority of this directive, however, on the surface, it appears to me, and others like me, that this may be a form of "backdoor" gun control, and an assault on my 2nd amendment rights.
This action makes no sense financially, as the brass is worth more whole, than mutilated. It is also having an impact on small business, as it threatens the livelihood of many in the ammunition reloading industry. (See link below).
I humbly ask that you investigate this directive, and use your elected position to protect business and the rights of your fellow countrymen.
Best regards,
John XXXXXXX

I had an opportunity several months ago to purchase several lots of used military brass. I inquired about it, and was informed that it was to be an "end use" contract. In other words it all had to be scrapped. If the lots had been smaller I might have gone for it anyway, but they were 90,000 lbs per. If it had not been an end use contract, it would have been more tempting, even though that would be a lot of brass to sort!

They was talking about this on Gun Talk radio today. They had the owner of Georgia Arms. They can not get brass for 9mm, 45, 5.56. or 308. He was expecting ammo cost to triple in the next six months because of this. All shells not just the reman. stuff.

While I dont doubt that something like this could happen, It has obviously not been implimented since if you go to the government auction sites they are no different then they were before, the auctions for fired cases still says NO MUTILATION REQUIRED!! and every link I have tried to go to for an official document or letter shows nothing. Doesnt hurt to stock up though because things will surely change with new ******.

It happened last Wednesday. You can still buy it, but it has to be melted or shreaded. Georgia fire arms says it will have to lay off half of it's 60 employes in a couple of months when there stock pile dries up. It said they put out 1,2oo,ooo 5.56 rounds a month mostly to ranges, and Law enforcement. I just got this of the gibrass.com website
