All Virginia Hunters

Yesterday, I recv'd a phone call from Major Pike, Asst Chief of VDGIF. We discussed the Model Ordinances and who proposed them. I admit, it wasn't people in the know of our game animals and methods used to hunt them, or firearms instructors. It was mostly lawyers, some that had quit chasing ambulances and gotten jobs with the Counties and State. I also strongly recommended that the personel at the Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries stay out of politics.

The entire issue is left to the discretion of the County Board of Supervisors for each individual county. He assured me that the counties are not being coerced or bullied into adopting these ordinances. But the fact of the matter is that they are still out there as recommendations that all the counties will have the option of adopting each new hunting season. I feel eventually that rimfire thingy is going to catch us.

Redhound, I volunteered you and myself as "Officers and Gentlemen" to aid them next time they wanted to draft up some new laws and regulations that would impact our civil liberties as sportsmen. Hope you didn't mind.

Pruson:

As a brother hunter and a brother Officer, I will serve and fight with you on any "field" (or body of water /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif). Count me in, we can consider this a "joint" operation! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I work with the game department as a hunter ed. instuctor, so I'll polish up my "legaleeze".

You hit the Attorney thing square on the head. My BOS rep. explained that he was a little long in getting back to me because he was waiting guidance from the County Attorney. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You see, that is so wrong. That "d a m n" attorney works for him, he doesn't work for the attorney. We the people or something like that. He doesn't need an attorney putting words in his mouth.

For those of you who haven't heard. The County Board of Supervisors in Charles City County,VA met last night and voted down their previous ordinance of hunting deer with rifles. They are now a shotgun only county New politicians are campaigning using that as their motto. Saying they will stop these rifles from being used to hunt with. The sad part is they are immediately winning the elections, unseating long time encumbents. Tree huggers and bunny huggers are taking it away from you and me.

Yep! you may have the right to bear arms. But someone is telling you which arms you can and can't bear.

Got the good word from my BOS Representative! I actually got this on Monday but we have been "smoked" trying to catch up from all the rain, at work, in our parks district. We have been staying over to get the mission accomplished, since Thursday of last week!

In Cumberland County, I have been pleasantly informed that we can use rifles larger than rim fire for coyotes. We do not have to be in a tree stand and this is in effect year round. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I was also reminded that they can be taken at night with lights (which I knew)!

As I stated earlier in my posts, things for hunters have been improving here in Cumberland for a while now.

Hopefully more and more counties will fare as did Cumberland County, and not end up like Charles City County. We'll know for sure who did what come 1 July when the new Hunting and Trapping Regs booklets come out.

This is just great. I am really pissed off at these lousey bureaucrats. While we hunters are at each others throats on the dog issue, they sneak this crap in under the table. How do we get the word out and get involved???

Vahunter, don't waist you time looking for reloading stuff at Gander Mtn. GreenTop has a better supply, period.

Welcome aboard Rafsob

Well, it is what it is, for this hunting season. May 1st was the deadline for County Board of Supervisors to submit their choices back to the VDGIF. If they didn't submit anything, then things remain as they were for last year. Some counties may have submitted something and we just don't know until July 1,08 when the new season's Hunting and Trapping Rules and Regulations Manuals comes out from the VDGIF. Check with your local Board of Supervisors.

In reality, it was a poor attempt by the state to standardize the law in order to simplify enforcement to a set of common denominators in all counties-statewide. Simplifying it took away a lot of things such as groundhogs after August and shooting coyotes and foxes, bobcats with a centerfire rifle in January and Feb. Coyotes don't always come into shotgun range. But as you know, a lawyer making laws doesn't know that. Common sense was totally forgotten by the law makers on these recommended Ordinances.

Once again, Welcome to PM there Virginian.

Welcome Rafsob! Glad to have you with us, this is a wonderful place to hang your hat and talk huntin'! Thank you for your service to our country! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
