but its a good one. A true light weight Predator rifle built on a rebarreled Kimber Montana. 6lbs. 4oz. as it sits in the picture, 22" barrel and all.

That was hurtful......you know good and well how much I love that little 700 Classic....

I am going with a Lilja 1-9 twist. Yes I am staying with the Montana contour. I was thinking maybe going 23'or 24" for the fps. But I think I will stick with 22. Unless you think I should go with something else.

I would stay with the 22" barrel and the Kimber contour. I believe you have made an excellent choice. Kevin Weaver is an excellent choice as your choice for doing the work.

You have know idea how much I dreaded bringing forth the truth............but on the other hand, if I'm still in the running for the inheritance I can take it all back.

I had Kevin Weaver true up and rebarrel a Rem 700 in 204. It shoots anything you put in it. Just a amazing shooter. Just a little heavy for the type of hunting I do right now.

Om my 2nd 17 right now. Sold my first one to my coyote hunting buddy. Currently have a R700 LVSF that loves 25 gr VMAXs and the Remington factory 25 HPs. I haven't shot any coyotes with it in a couple years. Been shooting a custom 223 with 65 SGKs for coyote tournaments the last few years. However the ole 17 is heading out to the gun range today to get zeroed and ready for the TX State Coyote Calling Championship ... not gonna carry my 16 lb 223 around day calling for 2 days. LOL I have sure pondered building a 17/204 and shooting the 30 Kindler Golds or a 17 Predator with a 24 in magnum contoured barrel

I Love the 17 Rem. The only one I have now is a Thompson Center carbine with 21" barrel. I am hoping to get a CZ 527 Carbine sometime in the future as I have 2 CZ's, one in 22 Hornet and one in 223 Rem.

Does anyone have any experience with the 17 REM. In a 14" TC Contender? Unknown the FPS will be drastically reduced over the rifles but I'm hoping this is going to be a really fun little gun to shoot some ground hogs with.

One of the big pro's for me is hunting in semi urban areas. Sometimes houses are 200-500 yards away from the properties I hunt. I can't have anything exiting the coyote and continuing on. The 17 Remington rules for coyotes in these circumstances. Death and no exits.

Owned a Rem 700 and Sako 75 in 17Rem. [beeep] my calling rifle is a CZ527 Kevlar in 204, been wanting another 527 in 17Rem for coyotes and fox. Noticed earlier this year that CZ is offering the 527 varmint in 17Rem again. Intend to buy one as soon as available.

Anyway, nothing like it on open country fox. Short side is starting over on gathering brass.

A 17 Remington with a custom barrel, with zero freebore, smaller than normal neck will produce accuracy that is hard to imagine. Talking about some tiny groups, get a 17 Remington shooting in the 2's...now that is some tiny groups. Lilja barrels rock!

Heh heh! Aint that the truth, Keith! And just how would you know anything about that? Heh heh!

Thanks again!

I don't have my data nearby, but I believe my Model 7 with 18 1/2" barrel was shooting in the 3400s and it worked well on fox so you should still be fine on ground hogs. I do know that was with IMR 4320 and Hornady 25gr HP.

the only con I have is the bullet is so small so you need a precision seating die that loads from the side[at least I do]it is so much easier to load with out trying to hold the bullet.

Who builds 17 cal barrels for the AR platform? Looking for a 17 tactical or fireball. I haven't had much luck with my searches.
