Aluminum vs. Steel Floor Plate

I have a friend helping me build a custom rifle. It is a .243 700 stainless action, Shilen barrel, and a McMillan Hunter's Edge stock. I'm looking for some bottom metal and wondering between the difference in aluminum and stainless steel. I know aluminum is lighter but steel is stronger but why do some people pick one over the other? I'm not interested in a drop out magazine also. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Depending on your use, the steel can rust (assuming non-stainless). However, the steel can take a high polish blue if your are also looking to that.

I like stainless steel floorplates (when I can get them) because I'm notorious about flopping my rifle down on something that ends up scratching my aluminum or blued plates. I started putting iphone gorilla skin screen protectors on a few floorplates on my rifles actually because of that.
