I was on one of those hunts back in the day, north/central Indiana, semi-trailers etc, except it was for fox.
There were only a few of us with shotguns, all the rest had clubs.
A very unique experience, plus a lot of walking, it was most of a day.
Since I carried a gun, I was an outsider and had no interaction with the locals. (no fun)
Also, gunners were not allowed to close in on the circle, where they clubbed them.

And yes a couple with clubs got some, the shotgunners were skunked!
Guess the fox liked their chances against clubs vs guns..
 
Back in the 30’s it was common here in eastern ND to have Jack Rabbit drives. No guns, just clubs, A township at a time (6 miles square) usually sponsored by a local church for fund raising

I saw it done with Jack rabbits as a kid in South Dakota
Only way with coyotes ive experienced was sending a snowmobile into a section and driving them to the road where they were gunned.
