I think what fails to get mentioned in all this blah, blah is the fact that many 1,000's of coyotes have been called with mouth calls and human voices! You don't NEED a E caller to kill coyotes never have, never will.
E callers have advantages for sure and that is what makes them worth the money. To be worth that money they must 1 be reliable, that is of major importance. They must perform eachand every time with little trouble. They must have volume, as we don't all call timber and when the wind blows less than 15mph. You have many to choose from because calling is getting more popular.
I look for features and sounds. The 2 big companys offer the ability to add your own sounds and also offfer sounds that work! It all comes down to what you want in a caller and the $$$ you want to spend for those features. Gerald sterwart/Burnham and others called in plenty of coyotes with records and tapes even with the draw backs.
If you want stero sound great then go for it! Is it needed to fool coyotes NO way! If the option is there and cost little more then a bonus as it can't hurt. It is how much can one get for their dollar and how well built the machine is that will sell the most units of a model.
I know guys that can bring in coyotes with their voices and use there voices for locating coyotes with alot of success.
Technology is great and helps make it easier for some, but in heavy pressure areas, it is using a different sound and a good setup that will kill the most coyotes, not what brand you use. Give them something new and they will come, as long as you do your part.
I have a WT don't care for it, I bought a Minaska Big Country because it does all I want it to and was what I wanted in a E caller. It has called in a pile of coyotes and keeps on doing it's thing with little problems, that is what I want. I have sounds that very few have, because I made them and put them on my own machine, I also have the Minaska sounds and others they all work and do the job.
You can say the same for other call makers, get what you want and go from there. Does sound quailty kill more coyotes? Some maybe, but the majority of calling is done in the fall/early winter and most are dealing with 40-60% makeup of younger coyotes which are duped easy, sorry just the facts. Add pressure and a different makeup of coyote age class then you could debate sounds available and sound quailty as adding a few more coyotes to the fur pile.
The fact is I call alot in the summer and as far as distress sounds I use very little, same with breeding season. Those early fall pup's are easy cake for distress sounds and having them in HD/surround sound is not needed, but may sound better to your ears, to a new recruit coyote it all sounds like food!
Do I want good/clear sounds? Yes as it gives me more confidance in calling, and that is big in my mind. All 3 have good sounds that will call coyotes with regularity. Is one better than another? That is up to each guy and what caller you buy.
Until someone can sit down and talk with a coyote we have observation to go off of to make educated conclusions, my years of calling have shown, calling where the coyotes can hear you, getting in undetected, and giving them a natural setup is major importance, the rest is the icing on the cake. AS it wouldn't matter if you had coyote vocals or rabbit blues in dolbey 7.0 surround without the proper setup and calling to coyotes than can hear you your success is nill.
This is alot like which is the best trapping lures, there are many quailty products on the market, you get the most from them with the knowledge behind them and not making them the silver bullet, great marketing, talking about sounds waves, cone length blah, blah and blah. The bottom line is there are no magic potions to make you a great caller or trapper, except hard work and experiance.
The products on the market help greatly in they get you away from the sound that is key first and foremost! The brand you choose will be decided from what you want in a caller, marketing, talking with others and price.
I chose a Minaska for many reasons, but I have tried all 3 of the major players and I personally like the Minaska best and they work for me the best in my conditions and circumstances.Others have different needs and wants.

You are correct. You can have all the best equipment out there, but if you cant do the simple things like play the wind, camo, not slaming car doors, ect it dont mean squat.

Egad!

Your just pushing me into information overload!

Gos, I think you should buy a Bose. If it doesn't call coyotes it will play great music.

I can't believe I've missed all this. Vacation has it's way of limiting forum time.

Just to clarify a couple things that have been pointed out that are NOT factual, since I have seen someone post it here and in other arguments to try and get a point across.

Mr. John Dillon OWNS FoxPro. Mike and Steve Dillon WORK for the company as the GM and Operations Manager.

Crapshoot is a very loyal customer and more importantly a VERY LOYAL friend to the Dillon family and just about everyone else he comes in contact with, to include me of all people.

Gos bose has a great payment plan and if you cant call them in at least they can sing and howl and dance for ya to the coyote waltz..and that would be in stereo. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Being a new guy to the forums, I had to comment on what weasel said, "The realistic, clear sounds are great for scaring the crap out of my wife, but not necessary to call animals." LOL Dang, that was funny. They don't scare my wife so much, but they annoy the hell out of her.

Thanks again for all the advice and suggestions. The Bose is out; thanks anway... But the other calls do look very interesting and worth a "hearing".
Later,
Gos
