Angry crow gets revenge

Sent my lab to retrieve a crow. He yelped and ran back with a bloody nose. Cleaned it up and he had a little chunk taken out of his nose. Crow bit him. He got over it quick and made some more retrieves.

Soft mouth for ducks, can understand that! But the dog needed a little revenge of his/her own!

Good looking dog you got there. You spoil him/her?

My buddy's lab had ton of experience with ducks but got real suprise when he retrieved his first Canadian goose. It wore him out to the point it actually spooked him. He's a lot better at it now

I have used my labs while hunting crows and have witnessed them biting the dog. I only use my older experienced dogs since this could set training way back on a young dog. I hunt pheasant, duck, goose, and dove too. But we had no ducks this year and crow season lasts till the end of February.

I can't believe you would even attempt to put dogs on crows. I have heard and SEEN so many horror stories regarding dogs and crows in my life. Eyes getting gouged out, lips bit open, etc...

I don't eat the crows but I did have one as a pet for a while. They are very smart and learn pretty quick. He got a little cranky after a while though.

I have seen pheasant do more damage to a dog than a crow. The pheasants spurs can rip a dog pretty good.

I know that a lot of people take their duck dogs crow hunting to keep them in practice.

I dunno about retrieving crows. I've thought about it a few times but I don't know if I would risk exposing my buddy to West Nile Virus. I have thought about it though. I know Murphy wouldn't have any reservations about it.

That trip made me nervous. I now have a shoot them twice policy. It's not 100 percent but it is great practice for him and much more fun with a dog. Hunted over water last time. Close to duck hunting as it's gonna get till October. Besides the snows we've been shooting.

I try to always make sure that the crow is dead before I send my dogs to make the retrieve. I don't use any of my young dogs because a live crow can get a little mean and scare a young dog. I have seen canadian geese get pretty rough on a dog too. Most of our geese come off golf courses and they have an attitude.

You have a nice looking dog there. This old man has always retrieved my birds myself. I would like to get a good pheasant dog. Never had one in close to 60 years of hunting.
