Annual Groundhog and Woodchuck tally 2015 (no prairie dogs)

Thanks Dave. I'm shooting 55 Blitzkings again this year (3,725fps) - out of Lapua brass now, until some other combination impresses me enough to change. 6 for 6 last night with one that backed into his hole again real quick just in time. (I had to try and flank him to get a better angle - highway was directly behind when I first got onto him. Waited 15min for that rascal but it was late so decided he wasn't coming out to play any more and moved on then.) But most of these came from one high vantage point in the field, where I was only out for about 1hr 15min total. Longest shot was 240 yards, most were in the 180-220 range. I had a few out at 330 that I wanted to try really really bad, but it just wasn't a great angle and I didn't want anyone across the way freaking out on me. That's the problem with these fields that are bordered now by highways and developments. I usually take the 22 hornet to places like this, but was glad to have had the extra zip last night. It all went very well and feel like I had some nice impact for my brother-in-law who farms that particular field now.

Nice sbraden. Went Sat myself and got three more for my farmer buddy. Had one come up the hill to me from his hole, that was 185 yard stroll!!! DRT offhand at 30 yds. Others were 180 and 160. I think after this rain today, i'll have to wait until the hay gets cut.

Got 10 so far. 9 of which were on the same day. Farthest were 381 yards and 389 yards laser confirmed, consecutively with a .223 Remington build on a Mini Mauser action shooting 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips over H335 soon to switch to 52 Gr Sierra BTHPs.

Got 6 on tues. for a total of 31. I was shooting the 75 amax to see how they worked in the wind. I'm still not sold as to how they will work on groundhog size animals. Had 2 crawlers.

Went out today got 9, wind was only blowing about 10 or 15. Longest shot was about 400. Season total at 40.

Why, 75amax from which caliber and what speeds are you getting? I'm looking at those pills myself when I rebarrel. Which is likely to be at years end to be ready for next year.

Duke, I was trying the 75 grain a max as a longer range bullet in the wind. I was shooting them in a 223 Ackley improved.I'm getting right around 3030 fps. Got 5 more today with the 221 fireball for a season total of 45.

The wife and I managed 6 between us last Sunday. 3 each. They were the first critters my wife had ever connected on. She tried on a few last year, but just couldn't connect. 5 were taken with a Rem. 700 .223 from 60-200yds. I got one at 350yds with my .22-250.

Stills from video:

I drilled his buddy first, kinda visible in the pic. Then this guy broke cover and made a waddle for the other side. I had to shoot before he got out of the frame!

Impact!

I shot from way up yonder on the mountain side off to the right. Easy shots, about 155 yards.

What a beautiful setting. Would be hard not to enjoy being there. Good shooting and thanks for sharing.

Absolutely! I cannot help but think how many of those shots (well, maybe not the ones with guts everywhere) would look good in a wall calender! Very beautiful stuff right there.

Man...I've been jonesing to get back out after them hogs but the grass is just too tall! The farmer said he was gunna cut later this week, so maybe next weekend!!!

38 yesterday. 24 today. Ruger M77 mk2. .223 w/ 40 grain V-Max over H335. Shooting on the farms isn't as pretty as the mountains but the sheer quantity of targets make it more than worthwhile.
