Another 22mag. Thread

Those Quads are nice. I just use a beat up old Ruger Magnum. Barely keeps five rounds of the Win JHP stuff under 0.6 at 50 yards.

K22, I must have overlooked your question of the 22 mag bullets I use. I too use the Winchester 40 gr. Super-X hollow points. Those seem to group pretty good in my Ruger VMBZ. I am fortunate to have purchased about 8 boxes of them before the Obummer scare got things going crazy.

Yesterday I found some CCI 30 gr. V-Max and picked up two boxes. They actually had quite a few boxes of it on the shelf, the first 22 mag ammo I have seen in quite a while. It was pricy but I got it anyway. Don't know how it will shoot or perform in my particular rifle. Just mainly wanted to have more ammo on hand.

As to the Winchester 40 HPs, I have only taken one coyote and one bobcat with those, so that isn't a very good indicator of how they might perform. The coyote was head shot at approximately 75 yards and dropped like a sack of potatoes. The bobcat was shot at a similar distance. It was quartering to me and I shot it in the left front shoulder. The bullet kind-of changed course a little bit and exited the opposite side, but a little more forward than I thought it should have, given the angle. The cat dropped right there, paralyzed and couldn't move. I had to finish it, but the bullet certainly did penetrate well and a fair size exit wound.

 
My Marlin 925m likes the Winchester 40gr. HP's as well. I can shoot through the hole in the top of an empty pop can at 100 yards with those bullets. I've shot alot of prairie dogs,skunks,porcupine, raccoons,badgers,one coyote and even shot a bobcat with it once. It took two shots to kill it but it was not doing very good by the time I shot it the 2nd time. He turned his head as I squeezed off the second round and shot straight through both of his eyes. Pretty hard hitting little rounds.
 
I've got over 20 boxes of the 40gr hp that was loaded in Illinois plant. The stuff coming out of the new plant in Mississippi isn't very. I only use it for hunting in one of my ruger 22 mag rifles.
